Job description

We are seeking a reliable, safety-conscious, and energetic Distribution Center Associate – Level 1 to join our team at the Monroe Distribution Center. In this hands-on role, you will be responsible for receiving, stocking, pulling, and shipping a wide variety of building materials and specialty supplies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Material Handling & Order Fulfillment: Read work orders, pull outbound customer orders, palletize, shrink-wrap, and stage products. Accurately attach labels and prepare shipping/receiving paperwork.

  • Equipment Operation: Safely operate sit-down-rider forklifts and powered pallet jacks to unload inbound shipments and stock high-volume building materials (lumber, hardware, roofing, plumbing, etc.). Perform required pre-operation inspection checklists.

  • Loading & Customer Service: Assist with daily loading procedures, secure loads with strapping/bracing, and accurately pull and load customer pickups (CPUs).
  • Teamwork & Training: Work autonomously or collaboratively to achieve departmental goals. 

  • Safety & Maintenance: Adhere strictly to OSHA, facility, and company safety policies. Maintain a clean, organized work area, perform daily safety checks, and assist with securing the facility at close of business when assigned.

Position QualificationsBasic Requirements
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.

  • Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen, background investigation, and post-offer physical exam.

Required Experience & Skills
  • 6 months to 1 year of experience operating a counterbalanced 2,500 to 5,000-lb Gas/LP or electric sit-down-rider forklift.

  • 6 months to 1 year of related experience in warehouse, shipping, receiving, or distribution center operations.

  • Proficiency in basic math (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, percentages).

  • Ability to speak, read, and write English fluently to interpret safety rules, work orders, and procedure manuals.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Active Forklift Certification.

Physical Demands & Work Environment
  • Physical Capability: This is a physically demanding role handling heavy and bulky building materials.

    • Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, climb ladders, twist, and reach overhead.

    • Regularly required to lift/move up to 50 lbs, frequently up to 100 lbs, and occasionally over 100 lbs.

    • Must be able to tarp loads and secure curtain-side trailers (handling up to 50 lbs).

  • Work Shift & Schedule: Must be able to work core business hours (typically 8–12-hour shifts), with flexibility for early morning start times, daily schedule adjustments to meet demand, overtime (45+ hours/week), and occasional Saturdays.

  • Environment: Non-climate-controlled warehouse and yard environment exposed to extreme weather conditions (heat, cold, humidity, vibration, noise, dust, and fumes).
