Job description

The Associate Logistics Operations Specialist is responsible for carrier selection and service levels across multiple business units. The Specialist's specific tasks include: the use of the corporate Transportation Management System (TMS) for outbound and inbound carrier selection based on cost, service, and level of commitment; determine equipment and service level requirements for multiple plant locations across business units and manage carrier selection and performance to meet cost and service expectations; maintain continuous contact and provide assistance to customer service groups, sales, plant purchasing, and plant shipping personnel; and secure and coordinate uninterrupted transportation services and materials flow to and from North American markets.


Responsibilities:

  • Utilize the corporate TMS for carrier selection on outbound and inbound shipments from multiple plant locations across all business units
  • Implement the day-to-day transportation plan
  • Implement and maintain company policy and standard operating procedures
  • Monitor service level requirements and equipment commitments with motor carriers
  • Monitor carrier service level performance and meet internal reporting requirements
  • Report cost reduction opportunities within assigned planning markets
  • Determine optimal mode between truckload, LTL and intermodal based on delivery requirements
  • Maintain good and ethical relationships with carrier/association contacts
  • Prepare daily/weekly/monthly reports
  • As directed, study possible savings and service improvements through use of new and/or improved carrier equipment, methods, and procedures
  • Upon request from the procurement team, prepare any data for the negotiation of carrier services and equipment within assigned planning markets
  • May be required to perform other related duties as assigned

Requirements: (education, skills, and abilities)

  • Minimum of 0 to 2 years of work experience
  • Bachelor's degree preferred with 0 to 2 years of experience; 3 or more years of work experience in lieu of degree
  • Working knowledge and experience in motor carrier transportation preferred
  • Knowledge of a Transportation Management System preferred
  • Solid interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Solid customer service skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
  • Basic knowledge of SAP or ERP systems is preferred
  • Minimal travel required (0 - 5 days per year)
  • Work environment is typical of an office setting
