Job description

Overview:

The Baldor Sr. Safety Manager oversees safety activities at the Baldor Bronx Facility. These professionals work in partnership with our Operations, Fresh Cuts, Transportation, Human Resources, Facilities, Sanitation and Food Safety teams. Under the direction of leadership, these employees are responsible for safety of Baldor personnel at the Bronx location and intermittent support to the other branches.

This role ensures that Baldor Specialty Foods personnel are working in an environment consistent with minimum safety standards and integrated best practices. Safety Managers oversee the implementation of programs, plans, policies, and procedures in the interest of Baldor employee, contractor, and visitor safety to reduce overall risk. Multiple specialty areas include OSHA, ANSI, FDNY, FDA and other applicable regulations and company standards. This role oversees the response to notifications of injuries, unsafe conditions, conducts inspections, and provides education, training, and feedback to the applicable departments.

Duties consist of managing Safety team members and overseeing the safety program in collaboration with the other safety leaders. This role involves summarizing and triaging communication to the Sr. Regional Safety Manager on relevant matters, updates, and measures. In addition, this role is heavily involved in overseeing the implementation of safety protocols and operating procedures according to the changing environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Has mastered a comprehensive knowledge of safety concepts and principles.
  • Leads the safety team and various department projects and responsibilities. Will lead and direct the work of other employees.
  • Performs complex tasks typically following established processes.
  • Works independently; receives minimal guidance.
  • Initiates and leads projects with accountability for ongoing activities in line with business objectives.
  • Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience.
  • Handles complex issues and problems, and refers only the most complex issues to the Safety Director.
  • Provides leadership, coaching, and/or mentoring both formally and informally.
  • Ensure the implementation of safety programs and procedures for all groups at the facility.
  • Develop, implement and execute components of the Baldor safety policies/procedures.
  • Demonstrate strong and supportive presence on the facility warehouse floor.
  • Maintain effective relationships with leaders, peers, vendors, and others in a diverse environment.
  • Support leadership decisions and follow through with team responsibilities.
  • Determine causes of safety occurrences and apply standard safety principles and practices to determine and implement solutions.
  • Comfortability researching relevant standards and best practices, then applying them to operations at the facility.
  • Assist in any other duties or projects assigned by Safety leadership.

Requirements:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of safety concepts and principles.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading others
  • Must be an exemplary professional and treat all Baldor personnel and visitors with respect.
  • Strong understanding and comprehension of warehouse safety.
  • Performs complex tasks typically following established processes.
  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent verbal and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Must be able to multi-task and work independently as well as contribute to the overall success of the team.
  • English proficiency, Spanish/French a plus. Must be comfortable working in a bilingual environment.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • OSHA 30, OSHA Training Institute 500-level courses or equivalent required
  • Significant experience working in a warehouse preferred
  • Minimum 10 years relevant experience in safety
  • Subject matter expertise and relevant certifications
  • Certified Safety Professional* cre

*Must have certification or acquire it within the first 12 months at Baldor.

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time in a cold environment
