Job description
Job Summary:
The Jewish Home at Rockleigh is a state of the art long-term and sub-acute care center located in Northern Bergen County. The primary focus of the position is to fulfill the requirements of supervising the preparation of foods in accordance with Orthodox Jewish Law Standards as set forth by KHC and Rabbi Avrohom Friedlander, as well as handling of the Kosher responsibilities within Jewish Home at Rockleigh Kosher kitchen.
Responsibilities:
- Supervise all incoming shipments of food and other supplies into the kitchen and set aside/send back any non-approved item.
- Check invoices for accuracy and food listed for kashrut
- Ensure proper/accurate labeling of dates to all food products
- Be attentive to any mixtures of meat and dairy products/utensils and equipment.
- Kasher utensils only when so instructed by the KHC.
- Inspect/wash vegetables on a regular and timely basis, based on the schedule given by the Director of Dining Services/designee
- Inspect periodically all nurses stations, nutrition rooms, Staff/Resident Dining Rooms, and all vending machines
- Must double-check all sheet pans, pots, hotel pans for steam tables and utensils to ensure that they are placed in their proper location, either meat or dairy.
- Assist with retrieving trays from the resident unit areas.
- Provide delivery of dietary requests to all resident units.
- All cooking responsibilities pertaining to the given shift worked for the kosher kitchen
- Inventory and Prep needed in fulling the Kosher menu
- Maintaining and organization of the Kosher kitchen
- Following all regulatory kitchen requirements including sanitation, temperatures and labeling
Educational Requirements
- Yeshiva Education
- Knowledge of Laws of Kashrut
- Cooking experience within healthcare is preferred
Experience
- At least one (1) year of supervision in a Kosher facility preferred
