What is an orthodontic associate?

An Orthodontic Associate is a licensed dental professional who works under the supervision of a lead orthodontist to diagnose, prevent, and treat dental and facial irregularities, such as misaligned teeth and jaws. They help plan and implement treatment, apply braces or other corrective appliances, and monitor patient progress. Orthodontic Associates may also manage patient records, educate patients about oral hygiene, and work closely with dental assistants and administrative staff. This role is typically found in private orthodontic practices or larger dental clinics.

How does an orthodontic associate typically collaborate with other dental professionals within a practice?

Orthodontic Associates frequently work closely with general dentists, dental hygienists, and dental assistants to ensure comprehensive patient care. They may consult with general dentists regarding patients' overall dental health before starting orthodontic treatment and coordinate care for patients who require additional dental work. Effective communication and teamwork are vital, as Orthodontic Associates often rely on support staff for tasks like taking impressions, managing records, and scheduling follow-ups. This collaborative environment helps streamline treatment plans and enhances patient outcomes.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an orthodontic associate, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Orthodontic Associate, you need a dental degree, completed orthodontic residency, and state licensure, along with a strong understanding of orthodontic diagnosis and treatment planning. Familiarity with digital imaging systems, orthodontic software, and intraoral scanners is commonly required. Excellent communication, attention to detail, and patient rapport are important soft skills for building trust and ensuring effective treatment. These skills and tools are crucial for delivering high-quality orthodontic care and achieving optimal patient outcomes.

Job description

Associate Account Executive - New Mexico and West Texas

New Mexico and West Texas

Candid is looking for a driven Associate Account Executive who thrives on energy, speed, and results.

Are you a confident communicator who loves making things happen, juggling priorities, and winning alongside a team? Do you push yourself to hit goals—and then set bigger ones?

If you’re competitive, persuasive, and thrive in a fast-paced market, this is your role. If not, keep looking.

At Candid, we’re reimagining orthodontics by pairing clinical expertise with leading telehealth technology. We believe that confident smiles and self-expression play an important role in everyday life. That’s why we empower general dentists with everything they need to make great clear aligner care predictable, efficient, and profitable for their practices and accessible and affordable for their patients. We’re looking for passionate people who want to shape the future of care, deliver real impact, and help us grow. If you’re ready to transform the future of dental technology, this is the team for you.

At Candid, we’re rethinking orthodontics by making clear aligner treatment more accessible for dental practices and their patients. As an Associate Account Executive, you’ll be on the front lines of that mission - building relationships with dental practices, creating new business opportunities, and helping practices successfully adopt and grow with Candid.

This is a field-based, territory-focused sales role designed for a high-energy relationship builder who loves being out in the market. You’ll develop your own pipeline, prospect new practices, support sales conversations, and work closely with experienced Account Executives as you build the skills to take on greater ownership of a territory.

This Associate AE position will support the New Mexico and West Texas territory. Candidates must be located within the territory, as this is an outside, field sales role.

What You’ll Do

  • Prospecting and Lead Development
    • Identify and prioritize high-potential dental practices in your territory
    • Develop and maintain a robust pipeline of leads through various channels, including referrals, industry events, and online research
    • Engage prospective practices and convert them into signed, active accounts
    • Build relationships with dentists, practice owners, office managers, and other key decision-makers
  • Support with sales presentations, practice visits, product demonstrations, and follow-up
  • Serve as a product expert by educating clients and confidently answering their questions
  • Maintain accurate pipeline and activity information in Salesforce
  • Launch & Grow New Accounts
    • Help newly signed practices successfully launch Candid through onboarding, training, and product education
    • Conduct or support in-practice training for dental teams
    • Monitor account activity and identify opportunities to increase adoption and case volume
    • Partner with Account Executives and internal teams to address challenges and create a strong customer experience
    • Help coordinate local events and other initiatives designed to drive practice engagement and growth
  • Market Awareness & Product Knowledge
    • Build deep knowledge of Candid’s products, clinical offering, competitive landscape, and the clear aligner industry
    • Participate in ongoing internal sales training and clinical education
    • Learn from experienced Account Executives and leaders to develop your sales skills and prepare for increased territory ownership
    • Stay informed on market trends, competitive offerings, and developments within the dental industry

What You’ll Need

  • 1-3 years of professional sales experience; dental, orthodontic, or medical device background preferred
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Daily field travel, with the potential of overnight travel
  • Overnight travel for team events 4-6 times a year
  • Experience with Salesforce a plus

The base salary for this role is $70,000. This role is also eligible for earned commission and mileage. Our compensation ranges are based on paying competitively for our size and industry, and are one part of the total compensation package that also includes equity, benefits, and other perks. To determine our range, we consider as many of the following data points as are available to us: external market salary survey data, experience level, skillset and balancing internal equity relative to our other employees. We include equity in our compensation packages because we believe our employees should have an option to purchase ownership in the company and benefit from what we hope will be a lot of upside growth. We expect the majority of the candidates who are offered roles at Candid to fall healthily throughout the range based on these factors.

Curious how you’re wired? We are, too. As part of our interview process, you’ll complete a quick Culture Index assessment designed to give us a snapshot of your natural work style, strengths, and motivators. It takes about 7 minutes; there are no right or wrong answers, and we use it as one of many inputs to understand how you’ll thrive at Candid - not to decide whether you’re “right” or “wrong” for the role. You'll receive a follow-up email with a link to complete the survey.

  • Competitive compensation
  • Stock option plan to give our employees a direct stake in Candid’s success
  • Unlimited PTO to give our employees a little extra R&R when they need it
  • Work from home stipend
  • Comprehensive health coverage (medical, dental, vision) and generous parental leave
  • Significant discount on our customized treatment plans and aligners
  • You will grow a lot here. You’ll be surrounded by employees with deep experience in their field, who have a strong passion for doing great work and constantly learning

Some insight into our culture that leaves an impression:

  • Care Deeply - We succeed when we care about what we do. We go the extra mile for our patients, our partners, and for each other because what we do matters, and the care we put into it matters even more.
  • Drive Results - Results matter. From closing a tooth gap to opening a new account—we set clear intentions, align around measurable goals, and take accountability for the outcomes.
  • Commit to Growth - To change the face of oral health care, we have to keep growing—as individuals, as teams, and as a company. We approach problems with a beginner’s mindset and continuously pursue improvement.
  • Embrace Candor - To create the environment we want to be a part of, we have to stay aligned—that means elevating each other and our partners through honest, respectful feedback, and fostering a culture of inquiry and debate.
  • Work as One - Together, we have the ability, experience, and intuition to serve our partners and grow our business. When we work as a team, we draw on each other’s strengths, inspire new solutions, and share in our success.

Our patients and colleagues come from diverse backgrounds and experiences. We strive to create and maintain a diverse and inclusive environment and hire great talent that is equally diverse; not simply because it’s the right thing to do, but it makes our company, our products, and our culture that much better. If you share our values and passion, apply and see what we’re all about.
