Job description

The Packaging Operator is responsible for safely operating and monitoring packaging equipment and performing routine packaging tasks under direct supervision.

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • High level of safety and quality.
  • Ability to multi-task at a fast-pace (at times), work in outside conditions during all seasons, climb multi-levels by stairs and ladders, work from elevated platforms, use hand tools (shovel, hammer, wrenches, etc.).
  • Good problem-solving skills.
  • Mine Safety and Health (MSHA) Knowledge - Preferred.
  • Forklift experience - Preferred.
  • Computer Software - Preferred.
  • Warehouse experience - Preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year of in similar capacity preferably in mining.
  • Operator will perform a pre-shift inspection of packaging line including machines. Note any defects found during pre-shift/area inspections. Give report to shift lead person. Write fault reports based on pre-shift/area inspection reports. Give report to shift lead person.
  • Operate robot. Operate automatic palletizer.
  • Operate wrapper at both warehouses.
  • Operate Parson's line.
  • Operate bag valve machine.
  • Monitor the packaging line to ensure there are no jams or equipment failure.
  • Remove broken and light weight bags.
  • Dump broken bags and refeed product.
  • Stacks or re-stacks 10, 25 and 50 pound bags on pallets as required.
  • Replenish packaging materials such as stretch wrap, labels, etc.
  • General plant/warehouse clean-up, including but not limited to, sweeping with push broom, cleaning in and around the stretch wrap machine and warehouse floors, etc.
  • Operate propane powered floor sweeper in warehouse as needed.
  • Pick up trash, empty trash cans and containers.
  • Must know the locations of all first aid kits, emergency eye wash stations, ear plugs, and safety harnesses. Conduct SLAM prior to performing each task.
  • Report any problems to immediate lead person/supervisor.
  • In addition to the above, tasks and projects may be added on a temporary or permanent basis as deemed necessary by management.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
