We are looking for an experienced and self-motivated individual to fill the position of Inspector with our Calcium Chloride plant located in Ludington, Michigan.
The primary purpose of this job is to acquire quantitative information about equipment condition through sophisticated analytical procedures to permit data-based decisions for plant reliability improvements. Although the majority of time involves data collection and analysis, failure analysis, and documentation, a critical part of the job is to work with maintenance and operations personnel to identify reliability improvement opportunities and to influence and support implementation of identified solutions. This position is eligible for the Alternative Work Schedule.
Functions that must be performed in order to fulfill the Primary Function stated above include:
  • Administer the Mechanical Inspection Program to assure compliance with ASME, API, and OSHA, inspection guidelines dealing with piping, tanks, exchangers, and pressure vessels. Interpret and correctly apply inspection codes and procedures.
  • Operate a variety of non-destructive testing instruments on a wide range of significant process equipment (Ultrasonic thickness testing, Liquid penetrant, Radiography interpretation, Thermal imaging, etc.)
  • Coordinate static equipment inspections as required. This includes the coordination of contract SNT-TC-1A Level II certified inspectors and API certified inspectors on an as needed basis.
  • In coordination with SME(s) develop equipment inspection frequencies, the steps to complete each inspection, document equipment performance, corrosion rates, establish classification of failures, when necessary, recommend control measures, issue reports with inspection findings, make fact-based recommendations for repair or replacement, and assist with developing scopes of repair.
  • Utilize provided software to schedule, organize, conduct, and analyze inspection information.
  • (Software examples: SAP, Microsoft Office Suite Applications, etc.)
  • Serve as a maintenance consultant for failure analyses, project reviews, equipment selection, and equipment repair and development of operation procedures.
  • Support and at times facilitate value-based decisions on maintenance repairs.
  • Actively support and participate on teams or in programs to continuously improve plant operations.
  • Must be able to work with others in a self-directed workforce environment. Teamwork is an essential competency.
  • Employee may perform other related duties to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.
  • Actively support plant and corporate HESS safety programs, objectives, and expectations.
  • Follows the Ludington Guiding Principles.
  • Supports the Food Safety Program and Quality Program and adheres to FDA requirements.

Education/Certification Requirements
Pre-employment Requirement
  • High School diploma or completed GED.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as NDT Inspector or degree in Metallurgy or Engineering.
  • ASNT SNT-TC-1A Level I or Level II qualifications and API certifications are a plus.
  • Working knowledge of materials of construction and fabrication techniques
  • Previous experience with Health and Safety practices and procedures in a manufacturing environment, ideally a chemical facility.

Additional Desired Qualifications:
  • Certified Welding Inspector (CWI)
  • NACE Corrosion or other basic instructional metallurgical certification.

Post-employment Requirements:
  • High level competency in SAP
  • API 510 Pressure Vessel and API 570 Piping Inspector Certifications
  • Certification is required within the first two years of employment.
  • ASNT SNT-TC-1A Level II Liquid Penetrant and Level II Ultrasonic Testing Qualifications
  • License for elevated work platform
