Managing these challenges requires strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and familiarity with warehouse management systems. Staying physically fit and following safety protocols are also crucial, as the role typically involves repetitive lifting and extended periods of standing or walking. Collaborating with team members and supervisors for clear communication helps ensure orders are completed correctly and on time.

Familiarity with warehouse management systems (WMS), handheld scanners, and pallet jacks or forklifts is often required. Dependability, teamwork, and time management are valuable soft skills that help ensure orders are picked accurately and efficiently. These skills are crucial for maintaining inventory accuracy, meeting shipping deadlines, and supporting overall warehouse productivity.

To become an order selector, you must be at least 18-years-old with a high school diploma or equivalent. Knowing how to operate a forklift or pallet jack is helpful, but most positions provide on-the-job training. Other qualifications for order selectors are the ability to lift heavy items (minimum weights vary based on the position), a solid work ethic, and excellent communication skills.
