Job description

The candidate must have solid experience with Oracle (11g/19c), and PostgreSQL (12+), expertise in cloud environments (AWS RDS/Aurora). The candidate will occasionally handle Oracle Prod issues afterhours and carry the Oracle Duty Phone on a rotational basis. They should have experience of migrating databases (+Terabytes) from on-prem to cloud and hands-on production experience.


Responsibilities:

  • Take ownership the data model:
  • Ensure model changes make it into production with known impact to system performance
  • Work with the Analytics team to create a data model allowing for a holistic view of the customer, identification of gaps, and working with the development teams to fill those gaps in the data
  • Ensure a complete model is captured and visualized, including definitions, into consumable subject areas and work to define the tables and attributes
  • Publish and socialize the data model across development and business groups
  • Increase security around data, including roles and privileges, and treatment of PII and PCI data
  • Ensure data quality through a combination of traditional relational integrity checks as well as reconcilement between systems
  • Create a strategy where test systems have representative production level data for good performance and variety checks
  • Evangelize data practices and standards through tech-talks, group discussions, and 1-1 conversations
  • Create source of truth among different database technologies, and work to reduce data redundancy
  • Look at platform monitoring and alerting and ensure proper statistics are being created for optimal performance and uptime
  • Create standardized platforms across all data technologies including Streaming, OLTP and Analytics


Qualifications:

  • Strong experience in modeling transaction (OLTP) and decision support systems (dimensional/star schema/columnar); understanding of streaming technologies and how it can be leveraged for business and technical advantages
  • Experience supporting a business from the data perspective with a strong business understanding
  • MS in Computer Science preferred or equivalent experience
  • Experience as a DBA and/or Data Architect.
  • Willingness to work in multiple roles including a data architect, DBA, data analyst, and coach
  • Advocate for when to perform ETL vs ELT
  • Keep current on latest technologies and ability to provide an assessment of different platforms and provide a recommendation.
  • Experience in redesigning monolithic databases to more manageable databases and help application teams re architect the applications.
  • 10 to 15 years’ experience as an oracle administrator or architect with 5 plus years as an oracle Exadata administrator.
  • Integrate technical functionality (eg. Scalability, security, performance, data recovery, reliability, etc)
