Founded in 1868, Hampton University is a leading historically black university (HBCU) located on the Virginia Peninsula in the City of Hampton. It is a privately endowed, co-educational, nonsectarian institution. The five-year MBA program comprises 157 academic hours of coursework, including an embedded undergraduate degree in Business Administration (Bachelor of Science). Competencies in the five-year MBA are achieved through an interdisciplinary approach. This approach encompasses a liberal education curriculum and a comprehensive background in accounting, technology, and engineering-based business. The program also includes structured and varied work experiences through internships. Professional application and refinement activities are required to ensure business sophistication, internalize professional and critical thinking skills, and build strong moral character.
Job Description
The School of Business at Hampton University invites applications for a full-time Management Information Systems (MIS) Professor position. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence in teaching, student engagement, scholarship, and service consistent with the mission and values of a Historically Black College and University (HBCU). The faculty member will teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in Management Information Systems and related business technology disciplines while contributing to curriculum innovation, student mentoring, and program development.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in areas such as:
    • Management Information Systems
    • Business Analytics
    • Data Management and Databases
    • Systems Analysis and Design
    • Advance Topics Info Systems
  • Develop and update course materials, syllabi, assignments, and assessments aligned with current industry standards and accreditation expectations.
  • Integrate emerging technologies, business applications, and experiential learning into classroom instruction.
  • Advise and mentor students regarding academic progress, internships, certifications, graduate education, and career opportunities.
  • Maintain regularly scheduled office hours and provide academic support to students.
  • Participate in curriculum assessment, strategic planning, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Engage in scholarly research, professional development, and/or applied professional activities appropriate to faculty rank.
  • Serve on departmental, school, and university committees.
  • Support student recruitment, retention, and community engagement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, alumni, and industry partners to strengthen academic programs and workforce readiness.
  • Utilize instructional technology and learning management systems effectively in face-to-face, hybrid, and online learning environments.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Information Systems, Management Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Information Systems, or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
  • MBA from an accredited institution.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach effectively at the collegiate level.
  • Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Commitment to student-centered teaching and mentoring within a diverse academic environment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, students, and community stakeholders.
  • Relevant industry certifications such as: PMP, CISSP, CompTIA Security+ AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner, Microsoft or Oracle certifications
  • Active participation in professional organizations related to information systems and business technology.
