POSITION SUMMARY

The Junior Database Administrator position is charged with supporting the IT department staff with the goals of developing and implementing well designed relational databases, promoting data sharing, reducing data redundancy, and in some cases acting as the information steward for corporate data.

DESCRIPTION

Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities

  • Database design, implementation, administration, performance tuning, backup and recovery and production support of enterprise database solutions.

  • Identify, implement, and refine database standards and procedures for data security, database optimization, database performance, and normalized data structures for on-line transaction processing (OLTP) functionality.

  • Work closely with Security Administrators and Network Administrators to combine Windows network security (Groups and Users) with SQL Server security (Logins, Users, and Roles).

  • Identify, implement, and refine database standards and procedures for de-normalized database structures (including Star Schemas and Snowflake Schemas) for business intelligence (BI), decision support systems (DSS), and (OLAP) functionality.

  • In conjunction with Software Engineers, conceptualize, design, program, test, implement and deploy SQL-based solutions using the appropriate technological tools, documentation, processes, design, and quality standards.

  • Provide technology expertise when collaborating with colleagues, vendors, and consultants to identify the technical requirements, assess technological options, recommend and implement technical solutions.

  • Ensure accuracy of coding, create technical documentation; utilize software configuration, version and quality management processes.

  • Work with project participants to maximize productivity, effectiveness and timely completion.

  • Participate in identifying measurable objectives in support of the organization, and objectives in pursuit of personal growth and skill expansion.

  • Migrate database and disaster recovery drills and/or BCP.

  • Protect corporate data assets and intellectual property.

  • Special projects as assigned.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or equivalent experience.

  • 2-4 years of experience with Oracle and SQL Server running on Windows platforms.

  • Experience with applying SQL Server service packs, hot fixes, Oracle patches and upgrades.

Skills, Abilities, and Knowledge

  • Solid understanding of database backup and recovery techniques.

  • Excellent relational database concepts and meta data management knowledge.

  • Good overall programming knowledge with specific strengths in PL/SQL, SSIS and T-SQL.

  • Understanding of alternative data structures such as XML.

  • Understanding of Data Warehousing concepts.

  • Strong writing and communication skills.

  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment and handle many diverse projects at one time.

  • Ability to interface and maintain excellent working relationships with development and operations organizations.

  • Strong problem solving skills.

  • MCITP certification and\or Oracle Certified Associate.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

  • Working on-site at assigned office location.

  • Regular and punctual attendance adhering to schedule established by leadership.

  • Flexibility to work occasional adjusted work schedules, overtime, and evening and/or weekend hours to meet deadlines or as business needs demand.

  • Working in a cubicle hub, maintaining focus on phone calls in a noisy environment within earshot of multiple other conversations.

  • Sedentary work in a stationary position at a cubicle for prolonged periods of time.

  • Constant repetitive motions required for operating a computer, such as typing and managing phone calls.

  • Constantly communicating effectively verbally in English, including accurately exchanging information with others following identification of correct procedures.
