What is an Oracle CPQ?

An Oracle CPQ (Configure, Price, Quote) job involves working with Oracle's cloud-based CPQ software to streamline and automate the sales quoting process. Professionals in this role configure product and pricing rules, develop workflows, and integrate Oracle CPQ with other enterprise systems like CRM and ERP. They help businesses improve pricing accuracy, reduce quote generation time, and enhance overall sales efficiency. Common job titles include CPQ Consultant, CPQ Developer, and CPQ Administrator. Knowledge of Oracle CPQ architecture, scripting, and business processes is often required.

Is it hard to get a job in Oracle CPQ?

Getting a job in Oracle CPQ typically requires relevant experience with the platform, strong understanding of sales and configure, price, quote (CPQ) processes, and proficiency with related tools. Certifications in Oracle CPQ and related skills can improve job prospects, but competition varies based on location and demand for technical expertise.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Oracle CPQ position?

To thrive as an Oracle CPQ specialist, you need expertise in configure, price, quote (CPQ) solutions, a background in computer science or related discipline, and experience with Oracle CPQ implementation. Familiarity with Oracle CPQ Cloud, scripting languages (like BML), and certifications such as Oracle CPQ Cloud Certified Implementation Specialist are highly valued. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication are crucial for collaborating with cross-functional teams and translating business requirements into technical solutions. These skills are essential to ensure seamless, scalable CPQ configurations that streamline sales processes and enhance customer satisfaction.

What are the main responsibilities of an Oracle CPQ specialist?

As an Oracle CPQ specialist, you will be responsible for designing, configuring, and maintaining the CPQ solution to meet specific business needs. Your daily tasks may include gathering requirements from business stakeholders, customizing product catalogs, developing pricing logic, and creating approval workflows within the Oracle CPQ Cloud platform. You’ll often collaborate with sales, IT, and project management teams to ensure the CPQ tool integrates smoothly with other enterprise systems such as CRM and ERP platforms. This role requires balancing technical configuration with a strong understanding of business processes, making it both challenging and rewarding. Over time, you can develop deep expertise in CPQ architecture, opening up opportunities for advanced solution architect or project management positions.
