The Senior Actuarial Analyst will be a vital contributor to the Optum Health reserving and forecasting team, focused on supporting Optum Care monthly reserving and quarterly forecasting. This role is responsible for developing and executing monthly reserving and quarterly forecasting processes that enhance consistency, transparency, and collaboration across Optum. The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years of actuarial experience, strong analytical skills, and a keen interest in the health care industry.

You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges.
For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain actuarial models used for reserving and forecasting for Optum Care Medicare Advantage blocks of business
  • Understand and interpret the key drivers of health care trends within reserving and forecasting modeling
  • Perform mathematical analyses and actuarial modeling to provide management with statistical findings and conclusions
  • Perform quantitative analysis of actuarial, financial, utilization and costs data
  • Communicate the results of your work in a meaningful way to internal stakeholders

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Finance or related field
  • On the Actuarial exam track, having passed 2 or more Actuarial exams
  • 2 years of Actuarial experience, with a focus on technical skill development
  • Intermediate or higher level of proficiency with Excel (including experience with VBA)
  • Intermediate or higher level of proficiency with SQL (Structured Query Language)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in the finance-related field of the health care industry
  • Proven solid written and verbal communication skills; ability to present findings effectively

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you'll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $72,800 to $130,000 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
