About Us

TECLens is a clinical-stage ophthalmic medical device company based in Stamford, CT, developing a next-generation corneal crosslinking platform. Our system uses a scleral lens–based delivery approach to administer controlled UV‑A treatment to the cornea, with real‑time monitoring for a precise, reproducible refractive correction procedure. We are currently advancing the technology through active clinical trials in Manila, Rio de Janeiro, and Santo Domingo. A large US trial will start in 2027.

The Opportunity

We’re looking for a practicing (or recently practicing) optometrist with deep, hands‑on scleral lens expertise to serve as a clinical consultant. This is a flexible, low‑commitment engagement to start — a few hours here and there to advise our team, fit scleral lens to volunteers, review protocols, and lend clinical perspective as we refine our platform.

Over time as the clinical program scales, the role has the potential to expand into a paid training function — traveling to our clinical sites (domestic and international) to train investigators and site staff on scleral lens fitting, handling, and best practices tied to our device.

If you’re a scleral lens enthusiast who enjoys teaching and wants meaningful, intermittent involvement with an innovative med‑tech program without giving up your practice, this is a strong fit.

What You’ll Do

Near‑term (ad hoc, a few hours as needed):

  • Provide expert input on scleral lens selection, execute fittings on volunteer, and in general provide guidance on lens application
  • Create and review clinical materials, fitting guides, and training documentation with an eye (sorry!) toward creation of a training curriculum
  • Advise the engineering, clinical, and product teams on real‑world clinical and patient‑handling considerations
  • Serve as a sounding board on questions that arise during device development and study execution

Down the road (as the program grows):

  • Travel to U.S. and international clinical sites (current international sites are in Latin America and Asia) to train and certify site staff on scleral lens fitting and device use
  • Help develop and standardize training curricula and competency assessments across sites
  • Support site readiness and act as a clinical resource during study startup
What We’re Looking For
  • Doctor of Optometry (OD), licensed and in good standing
  • Extensive scleral lens experience — routine fitting across a range of indications, including irregular corneas (e.g., keratoconus, post‑surgical, ocular surface disease)
  • Strong command of scleral lens design parameters, sag/vault management, landing zone, and troubleshooting (fogging, settling, edge lift, over‑refraction)
  • Comfort teaching and explaining techniques to other clinicians and staff
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative, roll‑up‑your‑sleeves attitude
  • Local to the Stamford, Connecticut area for occasional in‑person work
Nice to Have
  • Prior experience in clinical trials, medical device development, or industry consulting
  • Experience training or mentoring other practitioners
  • Willingness and availability to travel internationally as the role expands
  • Familiarity with corneal crosslinking or corneal biomechanics
  • Additional languages a plus (Spanish and/or Portuguese especially useful given our sites)
Commitment & Logistics
  • Flexible and light to start — engagements scheduled around your availability, typically a couple of hours at a time
  • Primarily remote/consultative in the near term, with occasional on‑site work in Stamford
  • Travel is not required initially; future travel would be planned well in advance, fully expensed, and separately compensated
