$130,000 - 160,000 based on experience 

Summary

The Optometrist provides evidence-based, patient-centered optometry care, following best practice standards and using a thoughtful and compassionate approach to appropriately diagnose and treat conditions of the eye within the scope of licensing, training, and credentialing. The Optometrist is passionate about improving the health and wellbeing of low income and medically underserved populations, functioning as part of the Medical Specialties team and the broader Medical Staff, working alongside clinical support staff and coordinating with other medical colleagues as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides reasonable and prudent optometry care, practices appropriate management and uses sound clinical judgement based on best practice standards and evidence-based medicine.
  • Maintains confidentiality in regards to patients, staff and program matters at all times.
  • Educates patients on preventive health care and chronic disease management or refers to appropriate resources or agencies.
  • Consults with other staff or specialists to make appropriate referrals for acute, chronic and preventative health care needs.
  • Uses the electronic health record efficiently; enters appropriate yet succinct clinical documentation; completes notes, forms and coding in a timely manner.
  • Participates as an active member of the Medical Specialties Department and of the broader Medical Staff, attending relevant departmental or organization meetings.
  • Participates in Department Peer Review.
  • Acts as a helpful colleague to other Medical Staff and serves as a resource in his/her area of clinical expertise.
  • Collaborates with Medical Director of Department in providing coverage for peers.
  • Participates in trainings as required by Medical Director or Department.
  • Provides supervision and guidance for junior staff as needed.
  • Meets all licensing, certification, and other requirements as set forth by state, federal, professional, hospital, and health center accrediting and health payer entities.
  • Actively pursues continuing education opportunities to maintain knowledge and skills.
  • Performs all other duties as required.

Qualifications

Education: Degree from an accredited Optometry School. Must have current Basic Life Support Certification.

Experience: Board Certification or Board Eligibility. State Licensure.

Knowledge/Abilities: Ability to provide comprehensive, preventive, and therapeutic health care based on professional knowledge, clinic guidelines, standing orders, and specific health background of patients. Professional knowledge of medical theory and practice. Knowledge of physical assessment, differential diagnosis, pathophysiology, pharmacology, and management of acute and chronic patient/family problems. Knowledge and management of principles and practices including optimum use of staff and all other available resources.
