Optometric Patient Care Technician
Full-Time | Monday–Friday | No Nights or Weekends
Pay: $16.00–$23.00 per hour
Blacksburg Eye Associates is a growing, privately owned optometry practice dedicated to exceptional patient care, advanced technology, and a positive workplace culture.
We are seeking a motivated Optometric Patient Care Technician who enjoys working with people, staying busy, learning new skills, and contributing to a professional, fast-paced team.
Previous optometry, ophthalmology, medical-office, or patient-care experience is preferred. We also provide comprehensive paid training to exceptional candidates with strong customer service skills, attention to detail, professionalism, and a genuine interest in eye care.
Schedule
- Monday: 7:45 a.m.–1:00 p.m.
- Tuesday–Friday: 7:45 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
- No nights
- No weekends
- Most major holidays off
Opening shifts may begin approximately 20 minutes early. Closing team members are usually finished by approximately 5:15 p.m.

Advanced Technology
Our technicians work with state-of-the-art eye-care technology, including:
- OCT imaging
- Optos and retinal-imaging systems
- Visual field testing
- Corneal topography
- Autorefraction
- Digital phoropters
- Electronic health records
Responsibilities
- Welcome patients and provide attentive, professional care
- Perform pre-screening and preliminary testing
- Document patient histories and test results accurately
- Explain diagnostic tests and procedures
- Perform retinal imaging, OCT, visual fields, corneal topography, autorefraction, and other testing
- Prepare and maintain examination and pretesting rooms
- Clean and maintain diagnostic equipment
- Teach patients how to insert, remove, and care for contact lenses
- Order and receive contact lenses
- Support efficient patient flow
- Communicate effectively with patients, doctors, and team members
- Help improve office efficiency and the overall patient experience

Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- At least one year of customer service experience required
- At least one year of computer experience required
- Optometry, ophthalmology, or clinical experience preferred
- Strong communication, organization, and multitasking skills
- Dependable, detail-oriented, and comfortable in a busy environment
- Available for the required daytime schedule
- Able to reliably commute to our Blacksburg office or relocate before starting
