Description
Role Summary
The OD & Referring Provider Liaison is responsible for developing and strengthening referral relationships between external optometrists, community providers, and Acuity Eye Group ophthalmology practices.
This role ensures clear communication, seamless referral processes, and strong clinical partnerships that expand patient access while supporting coordinated care across optometry and ophthalmology.
The liaison serves as a relationship manager, educator, and operational bridge between referring providers and surgical practices.
Success in this role is measured by growth in referral volume, provider engagement, referral quality, and overall partnership strength.
Core Responsibilities
1. Provider Relationship Management:
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with community optometrists and referring providers
  • Serve as the primary external point of contact for provider questions, referral support, and collaboration
  • Conduct regular in-person visits to referral partners
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen OD-MD collaboration

2. Referral Pipeline Development
  • Support growth of referrals for:
  • Cataract surgery
  • Retina care
  • Glaucoma management
  • Oculoplastics
  • Specialty ophthalmology services
  • Work with practices to ensure referral pathways are efficient and patient access is timely
  • Assist providers with appropriate referral protocols and scheduling processes

3. Communication & Care Coordination
  • Facilitate communication between referring providers and AEG practices
  • Ensure clinical updates, surgical outcomes, and care plans are communicated back to referring providers
  • Support practices in maintaining high-quality provider communication standards

4. Education & Clinical Collaboration
Educate external providers on:
  • Surgical capabilities
  • Specialty services
  • Referral criteria
  • Co-management protocols

Coordinate:
  • Provider education events
  • Clinical roundtables
  • Continuing education opportunities

5. Data Tracking & Referral Insights
  • Track referral activity, engagement, and trends across the assigned territory
  • Identify growth opportunities and referral gaps
  • Provide regular reporting on provider engagement and referral patterns

6. Outreach & Market Development
  • Identify new referring providers in the community
  • Participate in:
  • Local healthcare events
  • Provider education forums
  • Professional society meetings
  • Support strategic initiatives to expand patient access through provider partnerships

Requirements
Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business, Communications, or related field

3+ years experience in:
  • healthcare liaison
  • provider relations
  • medical practice outreach

Preferred:
Experience working with:
optometry practices
ophthalmology practices
surgical specialties
Knowledge of ophthalmology / optometry referral workflows
