Job description

Overview

The Occupational Health nurse functions as an integral part of the Health, Safety, & Environmental (HSE) team to provide high quality medical services to a diverse clientele on a local scale.  This position will collaborate closely with employees, physicians, admins, and others, as needed, to review and close medical cases based on employer needs. This position requires good communication skills, ability to work in a fast-paced environment, detail oriented, team player, and must be self-motivated with a positive attitude.

Responsibilities
  • Provide prompt and appropriate primary care (first aid) to employees, contractors and visitors, for occupational and non-occupational injuries and illnesses
  • Emergencies: Respond to emergency situations as required by established procedures
  • Training: Ensure appropriate training for all applicable participants on site medical programs and CPR, first aid, defibrillation programs and bloodborne pathogens. Ensure that program participants receive training as required to maintain certification and/or as per program requirements
  • Maintain medications/medical supplies (inventory, provide data for ordering, etc.)
  • Review physicians-directed employee restrictions documents
  • Manage injury/illness cases and all required documentation
  • Manage respiratory protection program/medical exams
  • Manage and perform onsite drug testing including pre-employment, random, post-accident and suspicionManage and administer employee vaccinations onsite.
  • Manage and maintain all injuries onsite including notification of WC provider/payor and case management of each injury claim
  • Provide first aid education as needed for other team members so that they can provide first aid effectively in the absence of an occupational health nurse
  • Manage hearing conservation audiogram program and perform onsite audiograms in provided booth.
  • Establishes and maintains a documentation system for occupational health record keeping and confidentiality. Responsible for all required OH reporting. Compiles and analyzes statistical information related to OH.
  • Designs and manages the occupational health program to meet employee health risks, develops related policies, programs and procedures, establishes goals for health management programs and measures outcomes. Establishes priorities and organizes department workflow
  • Contributes to goal setting and the completion of organizational projects and goals through the effective use of project management skills.
  • Partners with other environmental health and safety professionals to recognize environmental factors, and health and safety hazards (e.g. ergonomic stressors) in the workplace that may cause elevated risk to employees. Actively participates in identifying appropriate control methods and determining strategies to reduce those risks. Contributes to facility and corporate-wide team efforts to address OH issues.
  • Establishes working relationships with appropriate community agencies and health consultants to achieve program support and optimum health care for employees. Responsible for maintaining a high level of expertise through participation in continuing education for professional growth.
  • Follow up daily on pending injury/illness cases to ensure prompt closure to the case
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite programs required (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Maintain the site's HSE Medical programs which include but are not limited to revising procedures, forms, conducting inspections and providing training for the following programs:
    • Ergonomics
    • Maintenance and Security of Medical Records and Health Information
    • Automatic External Defibrillators
    • Fitness for Duty/Return to Work/Alternative Work
    • Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan
    • Dispensing Medications and Immunizations - Injections
    • Health Standard for Food Handlers and Food Safety
    • HSE Minimum Requirements for Occupational Health Services
    • Non-Regulated Drug and Alcohol Testing
    • Medical Waste Management
    • Medical Examination
    • Hearing Examination
    • Respiratory Protection Examination

  • Must be available 40 hours per week, with varied schedule (overlapping shifts)

  • Certification in CPR/first aid required, occupational hearing conservation and pulmonary function testing as appropriate to the setting
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Registered Nurse (Licensed in KY)
  • Occupational Health experience preferred
