Job description

JOB SUMMARY

The Senior Director, Distribution Strategy, Transient & Group - U.S. & Canada supports the execution of global and continent distribution strategies by translating strategic priorities into market-level action across the U.S. and Canada for the Transient and Group segments. This role works across Sales, Revenue Management, Loyalty, Marketing, Operations, and Global Distribution partners to drive alignment, operational pull-through, and consistent execution of key initiatives in a complex and evolving distribution landscape. 

The Senior Director is accountable for advancing assigned strategic priorities, strengthening partner execution, and ensuring clear ownership of account plans, implementation activity, and performance outcomes as required. This role also serves as a key link between global strategy and in-market execution, ensuring priorities are effectively translated into action while informing broader strategy through market insight and performance data. 

  • Leads execution of the U.S. and Canada Transient and Group cross-channel distribution strategy in alignment with Marriott's enterprise distribution priorities, with a focus on pulling through global initiatives and market-specific strategies. 
  • Responsible for account plans, implementation milestones, and performance against defined KPIs. 
  • Supports Marriott's enterprise strategy, partnerships, and negotiations with identified key distribution players in close alignment with VP, Global Distribution. 
  • Develops and expands Continent distribution partnerships that drive incremental demand, including new brand and licensed deal connectivity (e.g., Trailborn), while establishing clear pathways to convert customers into direct, repeat stays. 
  • Supports the Group modernization efforts, including adoption of approved products, tools and systems 
  • Pull through of B2B, wholesale, and offline leisure distribution strategies to improve efficiency, strengthen content control, and leverage new tools and technology. 
  • Owns inventory and channel strategy decisions, particularly in high-demand markets-optimizing mix toward lower-cost, higher-value channels. This includes OTA inventory controls, parity management, and improved transparency tied to travel spend and OTA marketing tactics, etc. 
  • Communicates U.S. and Canada Transient and Group distribution strategy clearly to senior internal and external Continent stakeholders and develops executive-level materials to support alignment and decision-making. 
  • Oversees pull-through of commercial terms across continents to support consistent execution of global initiatives. 
  • Builds scalable reporting and operational frameworks that standardize account management, improve visibility, and reduce duplication across continents. 
  • Leads a scaled distribution education strategy (e.g., market deep dives, forums, conferences) to build capability across markets beyond one-off sessions. 
  • Leads cost per acquisition and NetRevPAR optimization efforts in close partnership with Global Analytics to establish clear, actionable metrics that prioritize the most profitable topline revenue streams and channels. 

Functions as a strategic leader for the area, driving organizational clarity, execution discipline, and team accountability. Continuously strengthens team structure, operating rhythms, and leadership ownership to support business goals. Partners with direct reports and peers to set priorities, implement strategies, and make decisions that keep work moving forward. Provides direction across cross-functional initiatives and leads with a practical, results-oriented approach to execution, performance management, and continuous improvement.

This position can be located remote. Preference is it to be HQ based. 


CANDIDATE PROFILE 

Education and Experience 

          10+ years of hospitality experience with progressive career growth and a strong record of performance; or

          10+ years of relevant professional experience with progressive career growth and a strong record of performance.

          4-year degree from an accredited university in Business Administration, Hospitality Management, or a related field.

          Experience shaping and executing transformational strategies across business units.

          Proven ability to deliver results in complex, ambiguous, and fast-moving environments.

          Strong commercial mindset and passion for business growth.

          Ability to develop strategic frameworks and define KPIs that measure the effectiveness of channel partner relationships.

          Ability to lead large-scale account implementations in partnership with subject matter experts at HQ and in the continents.

          Strong account management, negotiation, and influencing skills.

          Strong leadership and communication skills, including written, verbal, and interpersonal effectiveness.

          Ability to build positive team dynamics and lead diverse, multicultural teams.

          Ability to work effectively across all levels of the organization, including senior internal and external stakeholders.

  • Builds and maintain trusted relationships across the assigned account portfolio.
  • Develops account plans, defines KPIs, and measures performance against them.
  • Develops and executes commercial and contract strategies for key accounts, including prioritization for technology enablement and mutual investment commitments.
  • Partners with continent leadership teams to ensure compliance with distribution contracts and distribution control standards.
  • Supports the VP, Global Distribution in identifying and establishing innovative commercial relationships that strengthen Marriott's competitive position in the U.S. and Canada.
  • Serves as a senior strategic and technical resource within the department.
  • Applies advanced knowledge of relevant issues, products, systems, and processes.
  • Analyzes information, evaluates options, and solves problems with sound judgment.
  • Thinks creatively and practically to develop and implement new initiatives and project plans.
  • Delivers accurate, timely reporting and executive-ready materials.
  • Stays current on relevant trends and applies new knowledge to the role.
  • Performs other reasonable duties as required.
