The Impact You'll Make in this Role

As an Automated Inspection Engineer, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:

  • Creating automated inspection and sensing solutions for high value manufacturing operations.
  • Adapting online detection tools to improve existing product quality and to create capabilities to aid new product development.
  • Supporting current technology infrastructure, including 3M's proprietary automated inspection systems. Work with corporate experts to learn, maintain and upgrade systems. Create concepts for the next-generation capabilities.
  • Lead data usage and analysis to help engineers and operations understand their processes and help create systems to drive improvement.
  • Working in a team environment with operators, maintenance, supply chain and business roles to identify opportunities and coordinate solutions.
  • Willingness to be on-call and provide occasional run support with others on the engineering team.

Your Skills and Expertise

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, or other manufacturing STEM degree (completed and verified prior to start).
  • Two (2) years' experience in Engineering in a manufacturing environment (internships included) or support of automated inspection or sensor systems for manufacturing in a private, public, government or military environment.

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

  • Three (3) or more combined years' experience in manufacturing engineering or automated inspection.
  • Experience with Sensors, Image analysis or Optics.
  • Experience with data flow, scripting, and building tools to analyze complex data.
  • Effective written and verbal communication and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Self-starter with demonstrated ability to identify opportunities and work with teams to achieve results.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize workload.

Work location: Hutchinson, MN

Travel: May include up to 5% domestic/international
Relocation Assistance: May be authorized
