Data Center Optical Engineer - Atlanta, GA
We are looking for a Data Center Optical Engineer for a 1-year contract opportunity in Atlanta, GA with a leading global telecommunications and network infrastructure company. This role will support customer data centers and co-location environments with a strong focus on fiber-optic infrastructure, optical testing, troubleshooting, migrations, break/fix, and data center operations. This is a hands-on, customer-facing field position with travel based on business needs.
This is a great opportunity for an experienced fiber/data center technician who is ready to step into a technical lead role. You'll have the opportunity to lead new project kickoffs, work directly with customers, oversee third-party technicians, and support critical optical infrastructure across multiple data center environments. The ideal candidate enjoys being hands-on while taking ownership of quality, execution, and customer relationships.
Contract Duration: 12 Months
Required Skills & Experience
  • 2.5+ years of hands-on fiber installation experience
  • 1.5+ years of experience in a large data center environment
  • Experience with single-mode and multi-mode fiber
  • Experience with LC connectors, fan-outs, patch panels, structured cabling, and fiber cross-connects
  • Hands-on experience with OTDR, VFL, optical power meters, stabilized light sources, and test sets
  • Experience with fiber installation, migration, remediation, decommissioning, and break/fix
  • Ability to read and execute MOPs, network diagrams, engineering documents, and cut sheets
  • Previous team lead experience
  • Strong customer-facing communication skills
  • Experience with ticket-based data center operations
  • Willingness to travel within the U.S. to kick off and lead new projects
  • Ability to lift/move equipment up to 50 lbs
