Job Description

Quadratic 3D is seeking a senior product development engineer in a key leadership role to design and develop opto-mechanical systems for 3D printers in a fast-paced multidisciplinary environment.  Successful candidates will be passionate about optical system design, 3D printing, building machines and enjoy working on complex problems that involve advanced materials, optics and systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead opto-mechanical design and engineering efforts for 3D printer development
  • Work closely across the optics, materials, mechanical engineering, and other cross-functional teams to define, develop, realize, and/or simulate a variety of optical systems for 3D printing
  • Brainstorm new system architectures and converge on feasible opto-mechanical designs
  • Build, test, and refine prototypes and high precision test fixtures
  • Provide guidance on optical system design considerations
  • Solve complex mechanical problems by inventing and integrating state of the art technologies and methods
  • Ensure compliance with EH&S requirements and promote safety in the work environment.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BS/MS degree in Optical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics or a related technical discipline
  • 3+ years experience designing and developing optical systems for 3D printers and/or precision opto-mechanical systems in an industrial setting
  • 3+ years experience with optical systems comprising displays, cameras and optical sources such as lasers and LEDs
  • Zemax or other optical ray tracing skills or equivalent     
  • Testing, tolerancing and analysis experience
  • Proficient in 3D CAD modeling, SolidWorks or equivalent
  • Built machines and test fixtures in early stage development
  • Programming experience in Python, Matlab and/or C++
  • Hands-on experience in basic rapid prototyping, DFM, DFR methodology
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of team
  • Great documentation, experimental design, and result recording skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of assembly and alignment of optical bench-top assemblies including linear and angular adjustments
  • Experience in both sequential and non-sequential optics and tolerancing both sequential or non-sequential optical systems
  • GD&T knowledge and practical application for precision optics or other components
  • Experience managing material vendors and CMs
  • Advanced knowledge of materials and structural modeling/optimization
