Job description

Description
The Johns Hopkins Department of Neurology, Division of Pediatric Neurology is seeking a full-time Assistant Professor to join our growing team of Pediatric Epileptologists. Primary practice location will be at Johns Hopkins East Baltimore Campus.
Johns Hopkins Department of Neurology is credited as the "birthplace of Pediatric Neurology". The fluid integration and collaboration of neurological care, training and investigation across the lifespan is a point of pride and serves as an example for the nation.
The Department of Neurology includes over 60 academic faculty in pediatric neurology. Johns Hopkins Child Neurology has ranked as a leading program in the USNWR for over 30 years. Our faculty include internationally recognized experts in epilepsy, clinical neurophysiology, neurogenetics, neuroimmunology, neuromuscular disorders, movement disorders, cerebrovascular disease, neurooncology, critical care disorders, headache, neonatal neurology, and neurodevelopmental medicine. Outpatient services at Johns Hopkins are provided at Johns Hopkins Outpatient Center. Child neurology has 5 inpatient services within the Johns Hopkins Children's Center, including a primary service, a general consult service, a neonatal ICU and pediatric ICU consult service, a pediatric epilepsy monitoring unit, and continuous neurophysiological monitoring service. Each of our faculty are committed to the academic mission of advancing care and understanding of pediatric neurological disease.
In addition to mutually agreed upon goals to be developed in partnership with the department director and the division director, the candidate will assume the following responsibilities, subject to change based on division needs:
Clinical:
  • 6-8 weeks of service on the inpatient pediatric epilepsy monitoring service per year
  • 4-5 weeks of service on the inpatient long term continuous EEG monitoring service per year
  • 1-2 outpatient EEG reading sessions per month
  • 2-4 half-day outpatient clinic sessions per week
Research: 20% effort is provided to pursue tailored research, academic, and teaching opportunities aligned with your interest.
Leadership: Leadership opportunities in fellow education are available to qualified candidates.
The candidate will be full-time faculty with The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine Department of Neurology, and will be able to participate in excellent benefits. Learn more about faculty benefits.
The referenced salary range reflects base pay, which is based on faculty rank and years in rank. This salary range does not include all components of the Department of Neurology faculty compensation program or pay from participation in the Department of Neurology incentive compensation programs. Therefore, the actual compensation paid to the selected candidate may vary from the salary range stated herein.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • DO or MD or equivalent medical degree
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Neurology with Special Qualifications in Child Neurology
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Epilepsy and/or Clinical Neurophysiology
  • Eligible for a Maryland Medical License
  • Candidates should have demonstrated expertise in the diagnosis and management of children with epilepsy, including complex and medically refractory epilepsy, inpatient and outpatient epilepsy care, EEG interpretation, and participation in multidisciplinary epilepsy surgery evaluation
  • Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to excellence in patient care, professionalism, interdisciplinary collaboration, and family-centered communication. Candidates should also show evidence of commitment to teaching medical students, residents, fellows, and other trainees.

Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in pediatric drug-resistant epilepsy, epilepsy surgery, intracranial EEG, neonatal or ICU EEG monitoring, developmental epileptic encephalopathies, dietary therapy, neurogenetics, or device-based therapies. A record of peer-reviewed publications, extramural funding potential, leadership in multidisciplinary clinical programs, and experience mentoring trainees would be advantageous.
