Familiarity with ophthalmic instruments, diagnostic imaging systems, and electronic medical records is essential for daily tasks. Strong attention to detail, communication skills, and the ability to reassure patients set top performers apart in this role. What is an ophthalmic tech?

Ophthalmic techs, or ophthalmic technicians, are healthcare professionals who assist ophthalmologists in diagnosing and treating eye diseases. They perform a variety of tasks including taking patient histories, conducting eye tests, administering eye medications, and operating specialized ophthalmic equipment. Ophthalmic techs play a critical role in ensuring that eye exams are thorough and efficient, and they help prepare patients for procedures or surgeries. Their work supports the ophthalmologist in providing high-quality eye care.

Ophthalmic Technicians often work in fast-paced environments where efficiently managing patient flow while maintaining high standards of care can be challenging. Balancing administrative tasks, such as updating patient records, with hands-on clinical duties like conducting diagnostic tests and assisting during procedures requires strong organizational skills. Job description

Ophthalmic Technician Opportunity

2020 On-site is the leader in mobile vision care. Since 2014, our Mobile Vision Clinics have provided eye care to over 75,000 patients at their workplaces, schools and neighborhoods. In May 2020, we expanded our services to provide vital access to clinical trial assessments and tests, bringing uniquely equipped Mobile Clinics directly to participants. Our focus is "radical patient-centricity", prioritizing the patient experience, minimizing time and distance barriers.

Fast forward, we are stronger than ever and growing rapidly. Joining our team now is a chance to be part of the future of eye care and clinical research. By building relationships with pharmaceutical companies who are prioritizing patient centricity, we are driving the shift towards decentralized clinical trials that put the patient at the heart of every part of the clinical research process. The opportunity: Reporting to the Sr. Director of Life Sciences, we have a new opportunity for an Ophthalmic Technician who wants to jumpstart their career at a unique startup in eye health. You will play a critical role as a patient-facing individual who is involved in the execution of national, specialty life science projects onboard the mobile eye clinic. You are an organized, motivated, self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced environment, making connections by phone or email with patients, and managing the operational processes of life science projects. Patient care is of utmost importance and as the first point of contact for the patient, interacting in an empathetic and caring manner will positively impact their experience with us.

This position requires 100% travel.

What you will do:

  • Interface with patients to perform Ophthalmic testing utilizing cutting-edge equipment and technology to accurately assess vision, eye pressure, retinal imaging and more
  • Drive our mobile clinic throughout different states where patients need access to care. (Commercial driver's license is not necessary).
  • Obtain and maintain necessary certifications for operating equipment onboard the mobile eye clinic
  • Build reports and transmit data precisely, as instructed per each clinical protocol
  • Communicate with patients and update them with pertinent information for their visit
  • Enter data and transmit information to sponsors, PIs, and reading centers
  • Ensure data is accurate, timely, and acceptable upon submission
  • Travel 100% of the time

Who you are:

  • You are a certified Paraoptometric or Ophthalmic Technician, but it is not a requirement
  • You have had experience with patients in a clinic setting
  • You may have ophthalmic testing/experience
  • Experience in an optometry or ophthalmology setting
  • A great communicator who enjoys helping people and is responsive to patient/client needs in a timely manner
  • Curious about new subjects and interested in learning new things
  • An adventurer who likes to drive and travel
  • A dependable & organized team player
  • You pay attention to the details and can capture that data in a way that maximizes a positive patient/client experience
  • You manage tasks and responsibilities appropriately, prioritizing the most pressing needs
  • You are flexible to work outside of a typical Monday-Friday 9-5

At 2020 On-site, we see differently. And if you do too, we should chat.

We're an open and inclusive team where each member brings a depth of experience and energy to what we do. We love to 'geek out' on problem solving, whether that's unlocking a new clinical trial approach, discovering a new eyewear brand, or building charitable programs that help kids in need see better. We enthusiastically share our new skills (home-made sourdough, anyone?), host company get-togethers, and have friendly debates about our favorite sports teams, WFH fashion trends, and the best places to get takeout.

At 2020 On-site, everything we do is guided by our values: We see you. We say "yes, and...". We own it. We go the extra mile. (And we love puns!)

At 2020 On-site, we also see candidates differently. If you feel you meet 70% of the qualifications we are looking for and share our vision and values, we encourage you to apply. We promise to consider your application fully.

We strive to build a team that reflects the diversity of the communities where we live, work, and take our services to. We encourage applications from traditionally underrepresented groups such as women, visible minorities, Indigenous peoples, people identifying as LGBTQIA+, veterans, and people with disabilities. If we can make this easier through accommodation in the recruitment process, please let us know.

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, protected veteran status or status as an individual with a disability.
