What's the role

The Shell Sarnia Refinery Manufacturing team is seeking a Process Operator to join the team in Sarnia Refinery. As the Process Operator, you will be part of a team that is tasked with the safe and efficient day-to-day operation of our assets. You will also have the opportunity to progress in an environment that encourages both personal and professional development and be part of some of the most ground-breaking projects anywhere in the industry.

Accountabilities:

  • Ensuring that plant operations are conducted in a safe manner, and that all safety and environmental regulations are followed

  • Monitor unit operations and troubleshoot process problems

  • Execute unit objectives and tasks for the shift to meet the overall production and budget goals

  • Make sound decisions based on Safe Work Practices, Policies and Operating Procedures

  • Participate actively and constructively in team meetings, safety meetings, inspections, and high potential pre-job safety meetings (Critical Task Analysis)

  • Permit work in area of control following standards, policies and procedures for the execution of safe work

  • Complete unit HSSE and Process Safety checks

  • Work with Maintenance and Engineering colleagues for the execution of various maintenance tasks

  • Safely lock-out and isolate equipment as required for repair or maintenance activities

  • Perform routine rounds in the plant to observe and verify equipment status and overall plant conditions

  • Enter clear and complete work orders for execution of tasks by Maintenance

  • Perform housekeeping duties as necessary on and around equipment, process area, and control room; keeping equipment and plant site clean

  • Perform various sampling and testing tasks based on unit needs

  • Identify opportunities for optimization and/or improvement in area of control

  • Adhere to Respectful Workplace Policies

  • The role is expected to be part of the Emergency Response Team

What you bring

  • Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer

  • Must be a Chemical Production Engineering Program (CPET) or CPTN graduate or equivalent of 5 years experience in process operations

  • Must have 4th class Technical Standards & Safety Authority ticket

  • Must possess a valid Class G Driver's license

  • Technical competence, understanding of process units and work processes with the ability to operate complex process control loops

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both oral and written

  • Must have good time management, oral communication and report writing skills

  • MS office computer software knowledge

  • Basic computer literacy

  • Using safe lifting techniques, able to lift and carry 20 kg from ground to waist level

  • Ability to work safely wearing a respirator or Self-contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA)

  • Willing to participate on an emergency response team including Fire Fighting Training

  • Willing to comply with Shell's drug-free and harassment-free work environment and comply with all safety policies and procedures

  • Willing to work in a diverse and team-oriented environment

  • Have good mechanical aptitude and equipment troubleshooting abilities

  • Willing to work overtime shifts, willing to work nights, weekends, and holidays as per the rotating shift schedule

  • Willing to work outdoors in inclement weather

  • Able to climb ladders and stairs, work at heights and in confined spaces
