Mission

Terus Construction, a division of Colas Western Canada Inc., is seeking an Asphalt Roller Operator to join our Highway Crew, based out of Crescent Valley, BC. This position requires frequent travel to support highway projects across the region.

Main Responsibilities
  • Operate steel-wheeled, rubber-tired, vibrator, segmented or other type of roller to compact earth, subgrade, sub-base and asphalt surfaces.
  • Distribute, break down, compress and give a finished surface to cooling asphalt.
  • Drive machine in successive overlapping passes over surfaces to be compacted, rolling subgrade and asphalt to desired compaction and smoothness.
  • Determine speed and direction of machine based on knowledge of compressibility of material under changing temperatures.
  • Push hand roller and pound surfaces, using hand tamp, or guide portable power roller over areas not accessible to road roller.
Qualifications/ Experience:
  • Preferably 1โ€“2 seasons of experience operating a roller on municipal and industrial/commercial base and paving projects.
  • Must be proficient in operating a roller and demonstrate strong safety awareness, with a commitment to following all company policies and safety standards.
  • Effective communication with other operators, truck drivers, and the public is essential.
  • Must be capable of operating and maintaining the roller with minimal supervision.
Working Conditions
  • Use of Personal Protective Equipment is required
  • Willing to work in field and in all weather conditions
  • Willing to work overtime (may include weekends) during the busy season (April to October) and on call as necessary.
  • Must be physically able to repetitively lift and carry at least 50 LBS on a regular basis.
  • This is a safety sensitive position; selected candidate must pass drug and alcohol testing as required.

This is a unionized position with an anticipated wage of $36.47-$38.73 CAD per hour. The final compensation package will be determined based on factors including the candidate's job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
