Job Description

The Operator ensures the safe and efficient washing, loading, and unloading of trucks in a highly automated production facility. This role requires strong attention to detail, adherence to established procedures, and the ability to work with process control systems and inventory management software. The position supports the smooth flow of materials in and out of the plant while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Understand and follow all environmental, safety, quality, and legal regulations for the work area.
  • Follow established procedures for loading and unloading trucks to ensure safe and accurate operations.
  • Adhere to the truck loading schedule and coordinate activities to meet timing and sequencing requirements.
  • Follow established cleaning and CIP (clean-in-place) procedures to maintain sanitary and operational standards.
  • Operate and use the truck loading program and process control computers to manage loading operations.
  • Verify that trucks are loaded correctly, sealed properly, and that all paperwork is accurate before the truck leaves the plant.
  • Notify the Process Supervisor or appropriate contact of any equipment failures, malfunctions, or operational problems.
  • Learn and comply with all established safety rules, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and food safety rules of the plant, as well as general company policies.
  • Verify the accuracy of all information related to shipments, documentation, and system entries.
  • Record and maintain accurate written and electronic information related to loading, unloading, and cleaning activities.
  • Assist with troubleshooting mechanical or operational issues related to production and loading equipment as needed.
  • Support overall production operations by applying strong mechanical aptitude and safe machine operation practices.

Essential Skills

  • At least 1 year of production or manufacturing experience.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds safely and repeatedly as required.
  • Ability to stand on feet for up to 12 hours at a time.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and comfort working with mechanical systems and equipment.

  • Familiarity with working around moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, and varying environmental conditions.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, including days and nights (6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. or 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.).
  • Comfort working in environments with high noise levels and using appropriate hearing protection.
  • Ability to adapt to changing schedules and work every other weekend as part of a rotating shift pattern.

Work Environment

This role is based in a production facility that manufactures yeast using highly automated processes. Safety is a top priority, and employees work closely with process control systems, loading equipment, and other mechanical machinery. The production area is very hot, with temperatures in the production room often exceeding 100 degrees, and you must be able to handle heat and remain on your feet for 12-hour shifts. The schedule follows a rotating pattern: 2 days on, 2 days off, 3 days on, 3 days off, resulting in working every other weekend and having every other weekend off. Typical shifts run from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. or from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. The work environment includes regular exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and outside weather conditions. You will frequently encounter wet and/or humid conditions, high and sometimes precarious places, extreme heat or cold, and a loud noise level, with appropriate protective equipment provided. The dress code requires steel toe boots, lab coat and pants, hair and beard nets, and safety equipment such as safety glasses and other PPE as required by plant policies.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $23.00/hr.
