Job Title: Boiler Operator / Operating Engineer Class 2

Job Description

The Boiler Operator / Operating Engineer Class 2 operates, maintains, and troubleshoots high-capacity boiler systems and associated mechanical equipment in a hospital environment. This role ensures safe, efficient, and reliable operation of boilers and plant systems through preventive maintenance, equipment repair, water treatment, and utility data analysis. The position supports critical hospital operations by maintaining essential heating, cooling, and steam systems used throughout the facility.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and troubleshoot assigned boiler and mechanical equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.
  • Follow preventive maintenance schedules for testing, cleaning, planned repairs, and equipment lubrication.
  • Perform routine and corrective maintenance on plant equipment to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
  • Install and maintain a wide variety of mechanical equipment within the plant operations area.
  • Operate and maintain all boilers up to and exceeding 12,500,000 BTU/hr, or equivalent energy input, in accordance with safety and regulatory standards.
  • Operate and maintain related systems such as condensate, feed water, chilled water loops, heating water loops, condensing water systems, and cooling towers.
  • Test, calculate, and apply appropriate water treatment to boiler condensate, feed water, chilled water loop, heating water loop, condensing water system, and cooling tower.
  • Collect utilities data and analyze it for performance trends, efficiency opportunities, and early identification of issues.
  • Read and interpret building and control drawings to support installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance activities.
  • Respond to equipment issues and alarms promptly to maintain continuous operation of critical hospital systems.
  • Collaborate with supervisors and team members to prioritize work orders and support safe plant operations.
  • Adhere to all safety procedures and guidelines while working around physical and chemical hazards, including extreme temperatures, chemicals, fumes, and dust

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $28.00/hr.
