Job description

Position Overview


We are seeking experienced Heavy Equipment Operators to support earthwork, underground utility, grading, and site development projects throughout the Reno area.
This is a hands-on, production-focused role responsible for safely and efficiently operating a variety of heavy equipment while maintaining production goals, jobsite safety, and grading accuracy. The ideal candidate has experience operating multiple types of equipment and can work independently while collaborating effectively with field crews and supervisors.


Key Responsibilities
Equipment Operation

  • Operate heavy construction equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Perform excavation, grading, trenching, loading, backfilling, and site preparation activities.
  • Adapt equipment operation based on project requirements, site conditions, and direction from field leadership.
  • Meet production targets while maintaining quality standards.


Equipment Types
Experience operating one or more of the following is required:

  • Excavators
  • Dozers
  • Loaders
  • Graders
  • Rollers
  • Skid Steers

Candidates with experience operating a broad range of equipment, including larger and more complex machines, will be considered at the higher end of the pay range.


Grade & Precision Work

  • Cut and maintain grade using stakes, GPS, and other grade control systems.
  • Perform finish grading and precision work with minimal supervision.
  • Work closely with foremen and grade checkers to ensure accuracy and minimize rework.


Utilities & Site Development

  • Support underground utility installations including water, sewer, storm drain, and conduit systems.
  • Excavate trenches and work safely around utility crews.
  • Maintain proper trench and excavation conditions.


Equipment Care

  • Complete daily equipment inspections before and after operation.
  • Maintain assigned equipment in clean and safe operating condition.
  • Report maintenance and mechanical issues promptly.


Safety

  • Follow all company and jobsite safety procedures.
  • Work safely around personnel, trenches, utilities, and heavy machinery.
  • Participate in daily safety meetings and Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) activities.


Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of heavy equipment operating experience in civil construction environments.
  • Experience operating multiple types of heavy equipment.
  • Ability to maintain grade and follow construction plans.
  • Strong safety awareness and jobsite experience.
  • Reliable attendance and strong work ethic.


Preferred Qualifications

  • GPS machine control experience.
  • Site development experience.
  • Underground utility construction experience.
  • Mass grading experience.
  • Finish grading and precision excavation expertise.
  • Basic equipment maintenance knowledge.
