POSITION TITLE: ForemanGeneral SummaryMontezuma County is seeking a dependable, skilled, and safety‑focused Foreman to support daily operations at the County Landfill and Baling Facility. This position works under the direct supervision of the Landfill Manager and plays a key role in coordinating operations, supervising equipment operators, conducting inspections, and ensuring compliance with environmental and safety standards. The Foreman also serves as acting Landfill Manager when needed and supports scale‑house operations in the absence of assigned staff.Essential Functions• Supervise daily operations of baling, landfill, compost, and recycling areas• Assign work, conduct load inspections, and maintain safe and compliant disposal areas• Oversee equipment and facility maintenance, repairs, and monitoring• Assist with environmental monitoring programs (groundwater, methane, stormwater)• Support development of the annual operating budget and cost analyses• Assist with staff training on equipment operations, safety, and inspection procedures• Maintain documentation, including baling, composting, landfill reports, and maintenance logs• Provide performance input for equipment operators and oversee timesheet accuracy• Prepare equipment and facility maintenance schedules• Operate landfill scale, computer systems, and cash register when needed• Interface with customers regarding rates, billing, disposal options, and facility rules• Assist with special waste decisions, personnel requests, and operational planning• Work overtime, including Saturdays, holidays, and emergency response events• Perform additional duties as assignedEnvironmental & Physical Requirements• Exposure to weather, noise, dust, odors, and potentially hazardous waste• Work performed in industrial and construction environments• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform standing, sitting, climbing, pushing, pulling, and repetitive motions• Requires adequate hearing, vision, and manual dexterityMinimum Qualifications• Basic math and computer skills (Windows environment; data entry; spreadsheets; word processing; databases)• Vocational/technical certificate in industrial mechanical repair OR 3 years of equipment maintenance experience OR a combination of post‑secondary education and 3 years related experience, plus 1 year of supervisory experience• Knowledge of equipment, materials, safety procedures, and operations in baling, composting, and landfill environments• Ability to read manuals, charts, diagnostic tools, and complete accurate reports• Must obtain required certifications:– MOLO within 1 year of hire– MOCO within 2 years of hire– 40‑hour HAZWOPER training– First Aid and CPR• Valid driver's license requiredMandatory Requirements• Participation in county drug and alcohol testing• Use of required personal protective equipment• Baseline and annual auditory testing
