Physician Assistant Cardiothoracic Surgery

Westchester Medical Center Valhalla, NY

Schedule: 3 Shifts/Week

Summary:

The Cardiothoracic Surgery Service, in collaboration with the Center for Advanced Practice, is seeking a Physician Assistant (PA), to join our expanding and innovative team. In this comprehensive inpatient and operative position, the PA will work alongside experienced MD, PA, and NP colleagues providing comprehensive perioperative care for cardiothoracic surgery patients across the Cardiothoracic ICU, stepdown unit, intra-operative, and inpatient surgical service.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform daily assessments, diagnosis, treatment planning, and ongoing management of postoperative cardiac and thoracic surgery patients.
  • Participate in the management of patients following CABG, valve surgery, aortic procedures, thoracic surgery, and other complex cardiothoracic operations.
  • Perform bedside procedures within scope and privileging, which may include arterial lines, central venous access, chest tube management/removal, pacing-wire removal, wound management, and other cardiothoracic procedures.
  • Participate in quality improvement, clinical outcomes review, patient safety initiatives, protocol development, and evidence-based practice initiatives within the Cardiothoracic Surgery program.
  • Assist with orientation, education, and clinical development of new PAs, NPs, trainees, and other members of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Participate in rotating nights, weekends, holidays, and call coverage based on departmental operational needs.

Qualifications:

  • Candidates must be board certified as a Physician Assistant and possess, or be eligible to obtain, an applicable New York State license.
  • Ideal candidates will have a minimum of 3-years of Cardiothoracic experience, although highly motivated new graduates with interest and abilities in surgery will be considered and are encouraged to apply.
  • Must possess excellent communication skills and demonstrate an ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
