Job description

GENERAL SUMMARY:
Investigate, plan and recommend changes in plant layout, material handling and process sequences to improve production operations. Research and recommend equipment purchases, modifications and replacements. Responsible for customer interface and project engineering in assigned areas. Perform manufacturing cost studies and recommend method changes to reduce costs. Work is guided by established company policy and quality requirements of both Quality Management Systems and customer requirements.
QUALIFICATIONS:
This position requires a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering. Prefer two to five years of production experience.
DUTIES:
  • Lead or assist in all engineering needs, including but not limited to:
  • Participate in Cost Estimating and APQP as required
  • Develop and maintain supplier capabilities and requirements in assigned technical and customer areas
  • Act as technical liaison to assigned customer
  • Maintain VA-VE efforts for assigned customer
  • Assist with machine design and prototype work with machine builders and all departments
  • Initiate new methods to increase efficiency and quality on a shop-wide basis, including modifications and automation recommendations
  • Track quoted rates versus actual rates for assigned customers
  • Serve as project leader as assigned, establish and direct teams as required, and document projects from inception to final summary
  • Perform/assist DOE’s as required
  • Perform/assist FMEA’s as required
  • Assist with blueprint changes, ECN’s and CIR’s
  • Perform root cause analysis for quality issues
  • Assist with Customer and Internal Corrective Actions
  • Manage process changes as required
  • Conduct internal and customer audits
  • Research, develop and implement departmental improvement goals
  • Follow Management Systems procedures and work instructions
  • Participate in EOS L10 meetings on a regular basis
  • Communicate with and assist all departments as needed
  • Participate on cross functional teams as needed
  • Assist in maintaining safe practices for all employees
  • Maintain a clean, safe and efficient work environment by following the 5S principles
  • Complete all other specially assigned tasks or projects
RESPONSIBILITY, ACCOUNTABILITY AND AUTHORITY
  • Support production of profitable product
  • Timely completion of engineering projects.
  • Communicate, in writing, updates of all assigned projects.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Employee will be exposed to the noise, fumes and temperature extremes typically found in a light manufacturing environment. Risk of injury from being in close proximity of operating machinery is possible, but unlikely if proper safety precautions are followed. Lifting requirements for this position dictate that the employee must be physically capable of lifting a minimum of 35# on a repetitive basis and 50# on an occasional basis.
All employees must wear PPE which includes hearing protection and safety glasses, both of which are provided by RIMA, and slip resistant shoes which the employee provides. RIMA has a prescription safety glass program and safety shoe reimbursement program that is available to employees after 90 days of employment.
