Job description

Operations Manager

RMS Lincoln Location Field Operations & Team Leadership

Since 1970, Rasmussen Mechanical Services has been a family-owned mechanical contractor working across the Midwest and Rocky Mountains. We've grown to over 200 people across seven locations, but we've kept the small-shop feeling that's made people stay with us for 20, 30, even 37 years.

We're hiring an Operations Manager to lead the daily operations of one of our RMS locations the person who makes sure our technicians have what they need to succeed, our service coordinator has the support to dispatch effectively, and our customers get the responsiveness we're known for. This is a leadership seat for someone who leads by walking the floor, not from behind a desk.

The Work

You'll own the daily rhythm of the location field operations, technician support, service coordination, safety, quality, and profitability. A typical week might include:

  • Backing up the Service Coordinator. You'll partner closely with the SC to make sure technicians get dispatched effectively, workload is prioritized, and the right people are on the right jobs. When workload spikes or something goes sideways, you're the one they can lean on.
  • Supporting field technicians. Removing obstacles, providing technical guidance, making sure they have the parts, tools, and information they need to complete jobs the first time.
  • Managing on-call rotations and emergency dispatch. You set the schedule, and when a customer is down at 2 AM, the response system you built kicks in cleanly.
  • Coaching and developing your people. Hiring, onboarding, performance conversations, and building the bench for the location's future.
  • Reviewing job costing, timesheets, and field reports for accuracy, profitability, and productivity.
  • Coordinating inventory across the shop and rolling stock to keep trucks and technicians equipped.
  • Walking job sites regularly to see the work firsthand, catch quality issues early, and stay connected to what your team is actually facing.
  • Supporting on strategy, budgets, hiring decisions, and location-wide performance.
Understanding the Service Coordinator Role

Your Service Coordinator is the operational nerve center of the location they take the calls, assign the techs, and keep the schedule moving. A strong Operations Manager understands that role deeply and treats it as a partnership, not just a report.

What that looks like in practice: sitting with the SC during busy stretches to see how dispatching decisions actually get made, jumping in when a technician calls off and coverage needs to be reworked on the fly, backing them up when a customer escalates, and giving them the authority and tools to make quick calls without needing approval for everyone. The best SCs feel trusted and supported. The best Operations Managers create that environment.

Why This Role Is Different
  • Family-owned since 1970. The Rasmussens are still actively involved. Leadership is accessible, decisions get made quickly, and we play the long game with our people.
  • Real ownership of your location. You'll partner with the Location Manager to run the show. This isn't a role where you're managed through a corporate playbook.
  • A full toolbox behind you. With ten specialized departments HVAC, boilers, mechanical construction, controls, reliability, and more you're managing a location with real depth.
  • Career runway. Location Manager, regional roles, and division leadership all get filled from within. Strong Operations Managers shape their own path.
  • Industry-leading pay and benefits, plus a culture that takes care of its people.
  • A genuinely good place to work. "Family" and "fun" are two of our core values, and we mean them.
What You Bring
  • 5+ years of personnel supervision and management experience
  • 3+ years in a customer service or field service environment
  • Track record of leading field technicians, service coordinators, or dispatch operations
  • Comfortable with job costing, scheduling, and productivity metrics
  • Strong communicator who leads by presence, not just by email
  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent hands-on experience we care more about what you've done than where you went
  • Valid driver's license; able to pass a pre-employment drug screen

Nice to have: Background in mechanical services, HVAC, refrigeration, or a related trade. Prior experience managing dispatchers or service coordinators. Industry certifications.

Working Conditions

Mix of office, shop, and field. You'll be walking job sites, sitting in on dispatch, and moving through the location throughout the week. Occasional lifting up to 2530 lbs, and normal hours are 7:00 AM 4:00 PM Monday through Friday with flexibility as operations demand.
