Job description

Eagle Point Power Generation is a 237 MW natural gas-fired power plant located in Westville, New Jersey, nestled in Gloucester County along scenic Crown Point Road. The facility began commercial operation in 1991 as a cogeneration plant, supplying steam and power to the adjacent refinery. It features two GE Frame 7EA combustion turbine generator sets, paired with ABB VAX and Siemens SST-400 steam turbines. In 2012, the plant transitioned to a full Independent Power Producer, serving the PJM market.

Opportunity Summary

This Operations Manager opportunity at Eagle Point Power Generation leads the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the plant's 237 MW natural gas-fired generating facility serving the PJM market. The role oversees plant operations, operator scheduling, training, contractor coordination, and regulatory compliance while driving continuous improvements in plant performance, reliability, and operational excellence.

Your scope of responsibility as Operations Manager includes the following primary functions:

  • Direct the Operations Team to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations while meeting production and safety objectives.
  • Manage operator scheduling to maintain adequate staffing, provide on-call operational support, and ensure reliable plant operation and emergency response.
  • Optimize plant performance by analyzing operating data and implementing improvements that enhance reliability, efficiency, and regulatory compliance.
  • Analyze operating results and equipment failures to improve performance while assisting with operations budgeting and cost management.
  • Partner with the Maintenance Manager to prioritize equipment repairs, outages, and maintenance activities that support reliable plant operation.
  • Maintain accurate plant logs, operating records, compliance documentation, and performance reports in accordance with company and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage operating procedures, manuals, and controlled documents to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance.
  • Lead the Operations Training Program, including operator qualifications, continuing education, emergency response, and safety training.
  • Oversee the plant water chemistry program, including sampling, testing, inspections, laboratory activities, and personnel training.
  • Coordinate environmental compliance activities to ensure adherence to permits, company policies, and applicable regulations.
  • Manage contractor work scopes and service agreements to support safe, efficient, and compliant plant operations.
  • Foster a positive team environment through effective communication, employee development, and collaboration.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support safe, reliable, environmentally compliant, and cost-effective plant operations.

Working Relationships

The Operations Manager reports to the Plant Manager and supervises subordinate operations personnel. The Operations Manager cooperates with the Maintenance Manager, Compliance Coordinator, Plant Engineer, and Plant Administrator as needed in the daily operation of the plant.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Physical requirements include standing for extended periods of time, climbing stairs and ladders, working from elevated platforms and walkways at varying heights, and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds.

Power plant environment that may involve entering confined spaces, crawling through narrow areas, and handling hazardous materials, with exposure to fumes, extreme temperatures, and noise. Work may include high heat near equipment and varying outdoor weather conditions.

Some duties may require the use of protective equipment, which can include hard hats, safety glasses, and eye protection, air masks/respirators, ear protection, chemical suits, flame-resistant clothing (FRC), hot gloves, high-voltage protective gear, and fall protection. Fit testing for respirators may be required. Strict smoking restrictions apply in and around the facility.

Fitness for Duty

All personnel will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program, which includes a post-offer physical examination, drug screening, and post-employment random drug screening.

Work Schedule

The Operations Manager works a standard Monday to Friday day shift schedule, ensuring consistent plant operation and support during regular business hours. This position will also occasionally necessitate extended working hours and flexible shifts as needed, including weekends and holidays, in response to schedules, workload demands, and plant conditions. Periodic callouts or “On call” status may also be required.

Some travel may be involved to participate in Manager, Owner, User Group, or other offsite meetings.

Compensation

This position offers an annual base salary ranging from $164,200 to $185,000 and includes eligibility for an annual performance bonus.

Professional Expertise & Qualifications

We are seeking an accomplished leader with extensive experience in natural gas-fired power generation and a proven track record of leading high-performing operations teams.

  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field preferred. Relevant industry or military experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
  • State of New Jersey Stationary Engineer Gold Seal License required. Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card.
  • Extensive experience managing power plant operations to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient plant performance while leading and developing operations personnel.
  • Strong technical knowledge of combustion turbines, steam turbines, generators, auxiliary systems, and balance-of-plant equipment. Experience with GE Frame 7EA gas turbines or similar technology is preferred.
  • Proven ability to analyze plant performance and equipment failures to improve reliability, efficiency, and operational performance.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and other applicable regulations, with a demonstrated commitment to safety and environmental compliance.
  • Experience managing contractors and coordinating work to support safe and efficient plant operations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) is preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, adapt to changing operating conditions, and make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with plant personnel, management, contractors, and external stakeholders.
  • Must possess a valid, unrestricted U.S. driver’s license and ensure it remains in good standing at all times.
