Position Summary

Reliance One, Inc. is hiring an experienced Automation Equipment Engineer for one of our trusted clients in the automotive manufacturing industry.

The primary responsibility of this role is to evaluate and plan automation, robotics, and equipment expansion projects. This includes process and layout design, equipment specifications, equipment standardization, project planning, and identifying opportunities to reduce project lead times.


The Automation Equipment Engineer will support paint manufacturing engineering initiatives involving new vehicle programs, equipment refurbishment, automation implementation, and equipment lifecycle management across multiple North American manufacturing facilities.


The ideal candidate will have a strong engineering background combined with experience in equipment planning, automation, CAD, technical specification development, and project management.


Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate equipment and automation project proposals, including process and equipment capability assessments
  • Support the planning and implementation of automation and robotic equipment
  • Develop process and equipment layouts for new and existing manufacturing operations
  • Develop strategies and lead implementation of equipment deployment and standardization projects across multiple North American manufacturing facilities
  • Develop equipment specifications and support equipment procurement activities
  • Identify opportunities to reduce equipment and project lead times
  • Create presentations and reports to communicate project status, risks, milestones, and key performance indicators (KPIs)
  • Develop expertise across multiple paint shop technologies, equipment, and manufacturing systems
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering and manufacturing teams to achieve project objectives
  • Develop and improve engineering standards for new technologies and equipment specifications
  • Support equipment compliance requirements and standardization across manufacturing facilities
  • Lead technical specification and equipment development processes
  • Identify project constraints, risks, and potential delays and develop effective countermeasures
  • Support equipment refurbishment and lifecycle management initiatives
  • Work with internal teams, equipment manufacturers, and other stakeholders throughout project development and implementation


Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or equivalent relevant engineering/technical experience
  • Experience with CAD or similar modeling software
  • Experience developing technical and equipment specifications
  • 2+ years of project management experience
  • Experience supporting manufacturing equipment, automation, robotics, or related engineering projects
  • Ability to identify project constraints and develop effective countermeasures
  • Strong analytical and technical problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional engineering and manufacturing teams


Preferred Qualifications

  • PLC experience and knowledge
  • Automotive manufacturing experience
  • Paint shop or paint manufacturing engineering experience
  • Experience with robotic and automated manufacturing equipment
  • Experience creating A3 and/or similar technical business-case documentation for equipment procurement
  • Experience with equipment standardization across multiple manufacturing facilities
  • Experience supporting equipment procurement, installation, launch, or lifecycle management
