Overview

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Operations Supervisor will be responsible for monitoring safety, quality, efficiency, schedules, budget, housekeeping, and required documentation, including supervision of department employees and coordination of daily activities.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for biogas collection operations and maintenance duties at assigned facility.
  • Direct tasks to technicians in daily activities with a goal of optimizing facility operation.
  • Manage staff schedules to stay in compliance with biosecurity requirements.
  • Responsible for grounds and regularly scheduled equipment maintenance coordination.
  • Support technicians during maintenance projects on major mechanical equipment.
  • Oversee safe work practices including lock-out/tag-out, confined space permits, and use of proper personal protective equipment.
  • Perform annual appraisals of direct reports.
  • Procure tools and equipment necessary to complete work tasks.
  • Enforce company policies and procedures.
  • Maintain staff by assisting with recruiting, selecting, and training employees; counsel and discipline employees; perform annual appraisals of direct reports.
  • Work closely with EHS and HR departments.
  • Travel domestically between domestic projects and to the St. Louis headquarters (up to 20%).
  • Develop and maintain relationships with employees at all locations.
  • Conduct activities in a safe and healthy manner, and work in accordance with established safety and company requirements.
  • Assist and/or operate facilities as need arises.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Promote a positive working environment in order to achieve the organization’s goals.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is performed in a plant/processing operation atmosphere. Exposure to harsh conditions—such as: dust, fumes, chemicals, hazardous materials, noise, and varying weather and temperatures is normal. All employees are required to follow safety standards and wear all personal protective equipment as defined.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential function of this job. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, lift, push, pull, use hands and fingers, grip, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and talk and hear. Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs. on a regular basis is required. Must be able to stand and walk 80% of the time and sit 20% of the time. Employee will be required to pass a limited physical and fit test for a full face respirator. Then, must be able to wear the respirator for up to 4-6 hours while at the facility.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE / SKILL / ABILITY / EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. is required.
  • Prefer five (5) years of Plant Operation experience.
  • Supervisory experience is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to read blue prints and other technical documents is required.
  • Ability to properly train new employees in biogas processing plant operation.
  • Must possess strong organizational, interpersonal, communication, problem solving and decision-making skills, as well as initiative and the ability to delegate decision making and other responsibilities. Ability to handle multiple time sensitive projects and issues. Must work well under pressure.
  • Basic electrical and mechanical troubleshooting are required.
  • Ability to read and understand schedules and basic business acumen is required.
  • Computer skills and a basic knowledge of Microsoft Windows based programs is required. Must be able to learn additional software; SharePoint, Ignition, MaintainX, GoCanvas, etc
  • Strong math skills are required.
  • High level of energy and motivation.
  • Must possess the ability to interact effectively with all levels of personnel, both hourly and management, in a team environment.
  • Ability to work flexible hours with weekend and some holiday work required.
  • Employees in this position may work at sites regulated by the United States Department of Transportation Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) and may be subject to federally mandated drug and alcohol testing in accordance with 49 CFR Parts 199 and 40. Testing may include pre-employment, random, post-accident, reasonable cause/suspicion, return-to-duty, and follow-up testing, as applicable. Compliance with all applicable DOT testing requirements is required to perform safety-sensitive duties.
  • Must have a valid driver license and maintain an acceptable motor vehicle record report.
