Job description

About SymendSymend is the leader in AI-powered customer engagement, helping the world's largest enterprises treat their customers better while improving financial outcomes. We combine behavioral science (BeSci), data science, and AI to design and execute digital engagement strategies that drive self-cure, reduce churn, and recover billions in revenue for some of the largest telcos, financial institutions, and utilities in North America.
Headquartered in Calgary, Symend is a category-defining company at the intersection of behavioral science and applied AI. We're building the next generation of intelligent customer engagement โ€” and we want builders who want to build with us.Position OverviewSymend is hiring AI & Agentic Automation Engineering Interns to help us automate the manual work that sits across marketing, sales, and delivery โ€” and turn our internal operations into a competitive advantage.
You will build agents, workflows, and AI-powered tools that take work humans do today and execute it better, cheaper, and faster. Think: automating RFP response drafting, generating ROI and business case models, building client-specific knowledge bases, producing and reviewing marketing content, and accelerating sales deliverables. If it's repetitive, judgment-light, and slow today, your job is to make it agentic.
This is a high-leverage, hands-on role. You will work directly with the CEO and senior leaders, ship things into production within days (not quarters), and have a real impact on how Symend operates.Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Design, build, and deploy agentic workflows and AI automations across marketing, sales, and delivery functions
  • Build internal tools and lightweight applications (web apps, scripts, agents) that automate manual, repetitive work
  • Develop and orchestrate prompts, chains, and multi-agent workflows using modern LLM platforms (Claude, ChatGPT, etc.)
  • Integrate AI tools with internal systems โ€” Confluence, Slack, SharePoint, Salesforce/CRM, marketing tools โ€” via APIs and connectors
  • Build knowledge bases and retrieval pipelines tailored to specific clients, products, and use cases
  • Automate the production of business cases, ROI models, RFP responses, content review, and delivery artifacts
  • Partner with subject-matter owners (sales, marketing, delivery, BeSci) to identify high-value automation targets and ship working tools
  • Test, iterate, document, and hand off automations for ongoing use by the broader team
Candidate Profile
  • Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, Engineering, or a related technical field
  • Hands-on experience building with LLMs and agentic frameworks (e.g., Claude, OpenAI, LangChain, LlamaIndex, MCP, n8n, or similar) โ€” this is the core of the role
  • Proficiency in Python and/or JavaScript/TypeScript
  • Working understanding of APIs, web development, and software design principles
  • Familiarity with databases (SQL or NoSQL) and basic data modeling
  • Bias toward action: you'd rather ship a v1 today than perfect a spec for two weeks
  • Strong problem-solving skills, curiosity, and resourcefulness
Nice to Have
  • Prior projects (school, hackathon, personal) where you built and deployed an AI agent or automation that did real work
  • Experience with full-stack frameworks (React, Node.js, Next.js)
  • Exposure to cloud platforms (Azure preferred; AWS/GCP also welcome)
  • Experience integrating with workplace tools (Slack, Microsoft 365, Confluence, Atlassian, Salesforce, HubSpot)
  • Interest in behavioral science, customer engagement, or applied AI in enterprise settings
What You'll Get
  • Real impact. Your code will ship and be used. We measure interns by what they put into production, not what they propose.
  • Direct mentorship. You will work closely with senior leaders and the CEO on problems that matter.
  • AI-first environment. Symend is investing aggressively in AI as a core capability. You'll work with the best models, tools, and infrastructure available.
  • Pathway to full-time. Top performers transition to part-time during the school year and full-time after graduation.
  • Compensation: Competitive intern salary โ€” details provided during the interview process.
AI Usage in RecruitmentSymend uses AI tools to support our recruitment process, including resume screening and an initial AI-assisted phone interview for shortlisted candidates. These tools accelerate our process so we can get back to candidates faster. Final hiring decisions are made by humans.Symend's CommitmentSymend is committed to building a diverse and inclusive team. We are an equal-opportunity employer and welcome applicants from all backgrounds. If you require accommodation during any phase of the recruitment process, please let us know.
