This is a net new role and as a Co-op Student or Intern, you will:

  • Develop aforensic mindset, learning how to detect patterns, identify red flags, and connect financial, operational, and legal evidence.
  • Strengthen yourfinancial modeling skills in Excel, working on loss quantification, economic analyses, and scenario-based models.
  • Gain hands-on exposure tofraud investigations, commercial insurance claims, and litigation supportfiles.
  • Grow yourcommunication, client service, and teamwork skillsby collaborating with experienced professionals and clients across Western Canada and nationally.

This is a unique opportunity to explore the world ofinvestigative and forensic accountingwhile being mentored by a high-performing national team of specialists.

What you'll be doing

You will be an integral part of our dedicated team providing investigative, litigation support, and insurance advisory services. In this role, you will:

  • Support relationships with BDO's current and prospective clients.
  • Actively participate in discussions and meetings with engagement teams to plan work, perform tasks, and deliver excellent client service.
  • Work with the engagement team on FDI matters such as:
    • Forensic investigations:Fraud, corruption, money laundering, and misappropriation of assets.
    • Commercial insurance claims:Economic analysis of business interruption, product loss, and cyber claims.
    • Litigation support:Accounting analysis related to shareholder disputes, breach of contracts, commercial and intellectual property matters, construction disruption and delay claims, and accounting/financial reporting disputes.
  • Examine financial records and documentation, analyze financial data, build financial models, and summarize key observations.
  • Conducteconomic and industry researchto support engagements.
  • Contribute to the preparation offinancial and loss quantification modelsused by the team in forensic analyses.
  • Assist in draftingclear, concise reports and presentationsfor clients.
  • Develop relationships with peers within BDO and externally with clients and prospective clients.
  • Supportbusiness development activitiesand internal practice initiatives.

Your experience and education

You'll be most successful in this role if you:

  • Are enrolled in a post-secondary program specializing inAccounting, Finance, Business or related fields, with the intention of pursuing theCPA designation.
  • Have a strong interest in building a career inInvestigative and Forensic Accounting.
  • Have a genuine desire to provideoutstanding client serviceand a willingness to help wherever needed.
  • Can workindependently, while also contributing effectively in ateam environment.
  • Bring stronganalytical and problem-solving skills, with curiosity and attention to detail.
  • Haveexcellent communication skills, and can articulate ideas clearly in both written and verbal formats.
  • Canprioritize competing deliverablesand manage varying deadlines.
  • Are proficient inMicrosoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, and eager to deepen your technical skills.
  • Have experience or a strong interest in usingdata analytics tools. Any exposure to advanced data analysis, including tools such asPower BIandTableau, will be considered an asset.

The expected compensation range for this role is $48,000-$60,000.
