Job description

Amazon Leo Satellite Manufacturing is seeking an experienced Tech Ops Engineer II (Maintenance Engineer) to join our Equipment Engineering & Maintenance team at SEA133 in Kirkland, WA. In this role, you will serve as a subject matter expert (SME) for critical manufacturing equipment, providing technical leadership for preventive and corrective maintenance operations across automated production systems, robotics, material handling, and processโ€‘critical equipment supporting satellite manufacturing production.

Export Control Requirement: Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

You will work independently with limited guidance, using your technical judgment to identify and resolve equipment issues that directly impact production throughput and uptime. Your decisions will directly impact manufacturing output, equipment reliability, and short- and long-term team goals.

Key job responsibilities
  • Deliver with limited guidance; use technical judgment to identify and resolve siteโ€‘level manufacturing equipment issues impacting production
  • Develop risk assessments and operational dashboards covering critical manufacturing equipment and systems
  • Plan and schedule complex maintenance tasks requiring coordination across production, engineering, and vendor teams
  • Provide oversight and direction for dayโ€‘toโ€‘day equipment maintenance activities in partnership with the Maintenance Manager
  • Create workflows, technical documents, emergency procedures, SOPs, JHAs, and task lists to improve team efficiency and reduce equipment downtime
  • Provide technical guidance to create, establish, and perform complicated preventive/corrective maintenance procedures on automated manufacturing equipment
  • Evaluate and identify equipment deficiencies; make moderate to high complexity risk tradeโ€‘offs based on current production conditions and equipment status
  • Supervise highly complex troubleshooting and troubleshoot highโ€‘complexity electroโ€‘mechanical problems on productionโ€‘critical systems
  • Influence across production, process engineering, and external vendor teams; mentor and develop lessโ€‘experienced technicians
  • Optimize process improvements for operational excellence; create process improvement plans focused on equipment uptime and reliability
  • Coordinate vendor work considering scope, production schedules, and required authorizations
  • Support implementation of Ignition SCADA and related controls systems for manufacturing equipment monitoring
A day in the life

Your morning starts with a scan of overnight CMMS entries before attending the team's daily standup - prioritizing equipment issues against production schedule and coaching a tech through a PLC fault. By midโ€‘morning, you're deep in root cause analysis on a recurring fault, coordinating with the OEM vendor on parts.

After lunch, you're reviewing SCADA alarm trends, updating dashboards, and drafting a process improvement plan. You wrap up in a crossโ€‘functional sync with Production, aligning on priorities that keep the line running.

No two days look the same, but every day balances handsโ€‘on problem solving with strategic thinking.

About the team

The Amazon Leo Maintenance Group (LMG) delivers worldโ€‘class uptime through preventive maintenance excellence, ensuring maximum reliability and availability for manufacturing production equipment. We qualify and maintain critical production and test equipment including electrodynamic shakers, thermal vacuum chambers, thermal cycling chambers, and space simulation systems, while serving as the essential bridge between production teams and Facilities Management. We are committed to the highest standards of safety, efficiency, reliability, and operational effectiveness to support successful achievement of satellite manufacturing goals, leading to a successful LEO constellation.

Basic Qualifications
  • Experience in MS Excel, Word, and Windows Operating Systems
  • 4+ years of industrial maintenance experience
  • Experience in the mechanical or controls field, or experience with electrical theory, robotics, controls components, and automated equipment
  • Experience interpreting mechanical and electrical drawings
  • Experience troubleshooting and debugging technical systems, or experience dealing effectively with customers during problem resolution and operating efficiently under pressure
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of engineering documentation, electrical diagrams and standard operating procedures
  • Knowledge of building codes and regulations including Life Safety, BOCA, NFPA, NEC, or OSHA
  • Experience reading and interpreting construction specifications and drawings for all domains
  • Experience maintaining robotic systems, automated conveyance, or complex material handling equipment
  • Experience creating and implementing SOPs, JHAs, and emergency procedures for manufacturing equipment
  • Experience with Ignition SCADA or similar industrial SCADA platforms
  • Trade certification, journeyman license, or equivalent technical education
  • Experience managing spare parts inventory and critical spares programs for production equipment
