Responsibilities
Those joining will develop operational internal audit skills through an internal audit focused project, which exposes the auditor to various portfolios within the third line. You will gain hands-on audit experience, where you will develop the ability to identify and evaluate risk, business process controls, and/or technology controls across American Express.
As a summer intern, you'll have the opportunity to learn and apply our internal audit methodology, while gaining an understanding of the American Express business model.
Key responsibilities can include:
  • Serve as a key team member on operational audit projects by evaluating risk, documenting processes under review, implementing audit tests (including business process and technology control tests), and detailing results in accordance with IAG methodology, policies, and procedures.
  • Research and learn about an audit entity.
  • Deploy critical thinking to assess what could go wrong and the impact to the business, while using evidence to support risk and control conclusions.
  • Support leaders and senior auditors in achieving audit objectives by collaborating in a team environment, attending walkthroughs, and detailing work papers.
  • Partner with business process audit teams and management to understand key processes, risks, and controls; develop control tests; and analyze and interpret results.
  • Build audit proficiency through ongoing professional development, including strengthening data skills.

Potential Projects or Key Deliverables
  • A candidate in this role may expect to support operational audit projects to evaluate risk, document processes under review, complete audit tests (including business process and technology control tests), and document results competently in accordance with American Express IAG methodology, policies and procedures.
  • Deliverables may include documentation of audit planning checklist, work papers, Audit Reports, or other audit documentation.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in a full-time Bachelor's degree program
  • Candidates with an expected graduation date between December 2027 and June 2028

Preferred Qualifications
  • Pursuing a BA, BS, or equivalent degree in accounting, finance, information systems, data analytics or information technology related field
