Job Overview
On a part-time limited basis, the Adjunct Faculty member's primary academic functions include teaching, discovering, creating, and reporting knowledge to a diverse set of students.
The Aviation Meteorology Instructor is responsible for teaching an undergraduate meteorology course designed specifically for professional pilot students. The instructor will deliver classroom and/or online instruction that emphasizes the practical application of weather theory to flight planning, aeronautical decision-making, aircraft performance, and safe flight operations. The ideal candidate combines extensive aviation experience with a passion for educating the next generation of professional pilots.
Essential Functions
- Teach Aviation Meteorology in accordance with the approved course description and learning outcomes.
- Develop and deliver engaging lectures that connect meteorological concepts to real-world flight operations.
- Explain atmospheric processes, weather systems, and forecasting techniques from a pilot's perspective.
- Instruct students on topics including:

- Atmospheric structure and stability
- Pressure systems and fronts
- Clouds and precipitation
- Thunderstorms and convective weather
- Turbulence and wind shear
- Icing
- Fog and visibility
- Aviation weather products and services
- Surface analysis and prognostic charts
- METARs, TAFs, PIREPs, AIRMETs, SIGMETs, and NOTAMs
- Weather radar and satellite imagery
- Weather decision-making and risk management

- Incorporate FAA guidance, weather technology, and current aviation weather resources into classroom instruction.
- Evaluate student performance through examinations, assignments, and classroom participation.
- Maintain accurate attendance and grade records in accordance with university policies.
- Hold regular office hours and provide academic support to students.
- Foster a professional learning environment that promotes critical thinking, sound aeronautical decision-making, and aviation professionalism.
Minimum Requirements
- FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate with Instrument Rating (CFI preferred).
- Recent aviation experience with practical knowledge of weather decision-making.
- Strong communication and instructional skills.
- Ability to effectively explain complex meteorological concepts to student pilots.
Additional Qualifications Considered
- FAA Certified Flight Instructor (CFI, CFII, and/or MEI).
- FAA Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) Certificate.
- Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Aviation, Meteorology, Education, or a related field.
- Previous college-level teaching or flight instructor experience.
- Experience as an instructor, check airman, simulator instructor, or training instructor within an airline or Part 121 training program.
- Airline, corporate, military, or other professional flight operations experience.
- Experience applying aviation weather principles in commercial or air carrier operations.
- Familiarity with aviation weather software, electronic flight bag (EFB) applications, and FAA weather resources.
Physical Requirements/Work Environment
- Office environment/no specific unusual physical or environmental demands.
