Operational Excellence Advisor information

What is an operational excellence advisor?

An Operational Excellence Advisor is a professional who helps organizations improve their business processes, efficiency, and overall performance. They analyze current operations, identify areas for improvement, and implement strategies such as Lean, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies. By working closely with different departments, they aim to optimize workflows, reduce waste, and enhance productivity, ultimately contributing to the organization's long-term success.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an operational excellence advisor?

To thrive as an Operational Excellence Advisor, you need expertise in process improvement methodologies (such as Lean Six Sigma), strong analytical skills, and a relevant degree in business, engineering, or a related field. Familiarity with process mapping tools, data analytics platforms, and certifications like Lean Six Sigma Green or Black Belt are typically required. Exceptional communication, leadership, and change management skills help drive engagement and facilitate organizational transformation. These competencies are crucial for identifying inefficiencies, implementing sustainable improvements, and achieving measurable business outcomes.

How does an operational excellence advisor typically collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive process improvements?

Operational Excellence Advisors frequently work alongside cross-functional teams, including operations, quality, and IT departments, to identify inefficiencies and implement process improvements. They often facilitate workshops, lead root cause analyses, and encourage team members from various backgrounds to contribute their insights. Successful advisors build strong relationships and act as change agents, ensuring that improvement initiatives are aligned with organizational goals and are adopted effectively across all departments. This collaborative approach not only helps drive sustainable results but also fosters a culture of continuous improvement.

You will serve as a coach, facilitator, and trusted advisor-helping teams embed structured problem-solving methodologies, strengthen performance management practices, and accelerate continuous improvement across the organization.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys influencing without direct authority, navigating complex stakeholder environments, and driving change through data, operational expertise, and strong leadership presence.

What We Offer

  • Facilitate workshops, diagnostics, value stream mapping sessions, and root-cause analysis efforts to solve complex operational challenges
  • Coach leaders and teams on Lean methodologies, performance management, problem-solving frameworks, and change leadership
  • Support implementation of process improvements that improve efficiency, quality, scalability, and customer outcomes
  • Partner with business stakeholders to translate data and operational insights into practical improvement actions
  • Drive cross-functional stakeholder alignment and support sustainable implementation of transformation initiatives
  • Identify opportunities for automation, digitalization, analytics, and process optimization in partnership with technology and data teams
  • Develop Operational Excellence capability across the organization through coaching, mentoring, and train-the-trainer activities
Who We Are Looking For
  • We welcome applicants from diverse backgrounds who are passionate about continuous improvement, operational excellence, and organizational transformation
  • Significant experience in Operational Excellence, Continuous Improvement, Lean, Six Sigma, Business Transformation, or related disciplines
  • Strong knowledge of Lean methodologies, DMAIC, Kaizen, Root Cause Analysis, Value Stream Mapping, and structured problem-solving techniques
  • Experience leading cross-functional improvement initiatives and driving measurable business results
  • Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the ability to drive change without direct authority
  • Proven ability to coach leaders and teams through change and performance improvement initiatives
  • Experience working with KPIs, performance management systems, operational metrics, and business analytics
  • Strong strategic thinking and business acumen with the ability to connect operational improvements to broader business outcomes
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, presentation, and executive-facing skills
  • Lean or Six Sigma certifications are beneficial but not required
  • Experience within logistics, transportation, supply chain, or operational environments is highly desirable
