Job description

About the Role

GCS Group is a telecom infrastructure contractor operating out of Red Deer, AB. We run active HDD crews on fibre and utility projects and we need an Intermediate Skid Steer Operator who can work efficiently within a busy construction environment. At this level, we expect you to bring real experience to the machine and real value to the crew.

Role Overview

You'll be running a skid steer as a core part of our HDD telecom operations - not just moving material, but making smart, safe decisions that keep the whole site productive. You'll work closely with drillers, locators, and site supervisors and be expected to anticipate needs and operate with confidence.

Key Duties

  • Efficiently operate skid steer equipment in support of HDD and telecom installations
  • Perform precision work in tight urban and suburban job site conditions
  • Manage spoil handling, grading, and surface cleanup throughout the project lifecycle
  • Load, move, and stage materials to support drill and pulling operations
  • Complete daily equipment pre-checks and report any mechanical concerns
  • Coordinate work activities with other trades and crew members on site

Qualifications

  • Valid, current certification is mandatory and must be confirmed before hire
  • Demonstrated experience operating skid steers in a construction or utility environment
  • Experience on telecom, HDD, or underground utility projects strongly preferred
  • Good spatial awareness and judgment in tight site conditions
  • Valid driver's licence

What We Offer

  • Above-average hours on consistent, long-term project work
  • Pay commensurate with experience and performance
  • Company benefits
  • Performance-based Christmas bonus for contributors who go above and beyond
  • Full LOA and accommodations for employees commuting from more than 100 km

REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS

  • A valid Class 5 driver's license & clean drivers abstract
  • CSTS 2020 certification required
  • Ground Disturbance Level 2 required

GCS Group rewards operators who know their machine and bring a professional attitude to every site. If that's you, we'd like to meet you. Apply now.
