Position Overview

In this role, you will utilize the nursing process to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care, both directly and indirectly. You will coordinate care by collaborating with an interdisciplinary team, patients, and their families. Effective communication regarding the patient's clinical status is essential, as is the ability to respond promptly and accurately to any changes in condition or treatment response.

You will demonstrate an understanding of growth and development principles across the lifespan, ensuring age-appropriate care for the patient population. Additionally, you will promote the nursing profession and professional practice through supportive interactions with colleagues. This position reports to the Clinical Nurse Manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments and re-assessments of patients, considering psychosocial, physical, educational, and cultural factors.
  • Collaborate with the surgical team to create, implement, and evaluate personalized care plans for surgical patients based on assessment data.
  • Adhere to the five medication rights to minimize medication errors, demonstrating knowledge of medications and their administration according to patient age and clinical condition, while following safety policies.
  • Provide patient care in a safe environment that fosters positive outcomes, adhering to policies regarding patient identification and surgical procedures.
  • Document nursing processes and patient responses promptly using appropriate tools.
  • Exhibit flexibility and organizational skills while functioning effectively under pressure, employing critical thinking and sound judgment in prioritization and delegation.
  • Practice autonomously in alignment with evidence-based standards, pursuing personal and professional growth, and serving as a role model and mentor.
  • Understand growth and development principles to provide age-appropriate care, interpreting patient data to meet specific needs.
  • Deliver accurate reports on patient conditions for safe transitions of care.
  • Prepare surgical rooms efficiently with all necessary instruments, sutures, supplies, and equipment.
  • Maintain aseptic technique throughout surgical procedures, identifying and addressing any breaches in technique.
  • Communicate effectively with the surgical team regarding the accounting of sponges, needles, and instruments, reporting discrepancies immediately.
  • Accurately handle, label, and process specimens.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the scrub role.
QualificationsEducation and Certification
  • Must be a graduate of an accredited nursing program and hold a current Registered Nurse license in the State of Connecticut.
  • Certification in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is required upon hire.
Experience
  • Prior experience in surgical or labor and delivery settings, particularly assisting with C-sections, is necessary.
