Job description

OR Assistant

Performing under the direction of the RN/LPN and as a member of the unit-based patient care team, the OR Assistant (ORA) performs duties of direct and indirect patient care. As delegated, the direct patient care tasks includes but are not limited to positioning patient for surgery with guidance from circulating RN or surgeon, holding patient for surgical prep, transporting specimens, cleaning OR procedure rooms and equipment. Indirect patient care activities include, but are not limited to, transport, restocking and/or obtaining patient care supplies. In addition, the ORA is responsible for responding in a timely manner to the needs of patients and family members and taking a proactive role in the efficient operation of the unit. They function within policies, procedures and guidelines of SMH in accordance with the CDC and OSHA standards, and any other applicable regulatory or accreditation agency.

Required Skills/Qualifications/Training/Experience:

  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills needed to assist in providing patient care
  • Good organizational skills, personal maturity, accuracy and flexibility.
  • Command of verbal and written English
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal skills and adaptability, creating a favorable image in relationship to the Nursing Department and the hospital as a whole
  • Ability to perform simple math calculations
  • Must develop and maintain positive relationships across all areas of responsibility
  • Must visibly demonstrate commitment to customer relations and all basic concepts of continuous quality improvement and preventing error from reaching the patient

Educational Requirements:

  • High School Graduate or equivalent preferred

Salary Range: $15.67-$23.50

A successful candidate's actual compensation will be determined after taking factors into consideration such as the candidate's work history, experience, skill set, and education.
