FT Operating Room Patient Care Assistant
Southpoint Surgery Center (SPSC), an affiliate of North Carolina Specialty Hospital, is a new Ambulatory Surgery Center located between Raleigh and Durham in the Durham-Southpoint area. SPSC will provide a differentiated outpatient delivery model focused on providing high-quality, cost-effective solutions for surgical and related ancillary care for patients. SPSC is a multi-specialty 22,298 sq. ft. facility accommodating the following: Ortho, Spine, Ophthalmology, ENT, GYN, General, Urology, Plastics, Podiatry, Vascular, and Pain. At SPSC you will find highly motivated team-players and a welcoming team-oriented staff.

Job Duties:
  • Takes vital signs and records this information on a medical chart.
  • Assists with the collection of lab specimens.
  • Transports patients to and from operating rooms, laboratories, and examining rooms.
  • Assists patients who need help walking or standing.
  • Communicates a patient's needs to nurses and doctors as appropriate.
  • Aids people in the use of any medical devices and equipment required for their specific condition.
  • Updates relief workers on any unusual situations that may need to be addressed during their shift.

Skills and Abilities:
  • Has strong knowledge of medical terminology, diseases, and procedures and the ability to communicate effectively.
  • Understands basic first aid and CPR, and is capable of administering them if need be.
  • Demonstrates a personal interest in the health and well-being of others
  • Has the ability to work with little to no supervision.
  • Is able to maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Possesses good time management skills.

Training, experience and education:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • One year of Operating Room or patient care experience in an ambulatory surgical setting strongly preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) required upon hire.
