Job Description:

Perioperative Support Services Technician
Operating Room - Per Diem

Who We Are:

SNHMC has nine operating room suites, 25 pre-op/PACU bays, and a sterile processing department. Hours are flexible, with 8-, 10-, and 12-hour day shifts available. The OR has a dedicated call team Sunday through Thursday nights beginning at 7PM, making OR call minimal. Services range from elective and non-elective procedures, including neurological, orthopedic, gynecological, urological, bariatric, colorectal, vascular, ENT, general, breast, and plastics. Surgical services are growing and evolving, utilizing the latest technology for the wide variety of procedures we perform. The OR also offers Periop-101 and advancements.

About the Job:

As a member of the Surgical Services team, the Perioperative Support Technician identifies and collects sterile instrumentation and equipment for surgical procedures. This role assists the surgical team with intra-operative procedures and room turnover. The Perioperative Support Technician responds appropriately to emergency situations, works under the direction of the surgical team.

What You'll Do:

  • Identify and collect sterile instrumentation and equipment for surgical procedures.

  • Assist the surgical team with intra-operative procedures.

  • Assist the surgical team with room turnover.

  • Respond appropriately to emergency situations in a calm manner.

  • Monitor for expired, damaged, or nonfunctioning products or equipment.

  • Use surgical preference cards to verify and/or select instrumentation and equipment.

  • Work collaboratively with the equipment Technologist to inspect equipment for safety and function and reports defects.

  • Anticipate equipment needs for surgical procedures.

  • Assist with room set up.

Who You Are:

  • High School diploma or equivalent

  • Knowledge of equipment and instrumentation

  • Frequent use of fine motor and sensory skills.

  • Ability to achieve the following competencies Within 180 days:

    • Preference cards

    • Inventory management of supplies

    • Equipment safety check

    • Room setup

    • Cleans and decontaminates surgical instruments
