Summary
The OR cleaning aide thoroughly cleans and disinfects the operating room (OR) and its equipment, including OR tables, instruments, and equipment. They follow strict infection control guidelines and protocols to maintain a sterile environment. In addition to the operating rooms they assist with department cleaning and disinfection of the lounges, offices, restrooms, corridors, kitchen and other areas within the surgical department.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Thoroughly cleans and disinfects the Operating Rooms and Procedure Rooms and their equipment following strict infection control guidelines and protocols to maintain a sterile environment in between cases and during the terminal cleaning process.
  • Cleans and disinfects pre-operative and post-operative areas.
  • Cleans and disinfects the Sterile Processing Department and sterile storage.
  • Operates UV robot to disinfect required areas per manufacturers instructions for use
  • Cleans and disinfects Surgical Services department.
  • Keeps assigned areas neat and orderly
  • Stocks clean linen.
  • Transports trash and dirty linen to soiled utility area.
  • Cleans lobbies, lounges, offices, restrooms, corridors, kitchen and other areas.
  • Operates washer and dryer to maintain stock of surgical caps and scrub attire.
  • Cleans rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture, drapes and curtains.
  • Inspects facilities for repairs and maintenance and reports issues to department leadership.
  • Dusts furniture. Washes walls, ceiling, woodwork, windows, door panels, and sills and polishes metalwork.
  • Empties wastebaskets.
  • Transports trash and waste to disposal areas outside the department as necessary.
  • Replenishes supplies such as soap, hand sanitizer, paper products and other items in designated areas.
  • Cleans light fixtures.
  • May be required to travel to additional locations of the organization.
  • Demonstrates System Values in performance and behavior.
  • Strictly adheres to hospital policies, procedures, and safety protocols related to infection control, universal precautions, and hand hygiene.
  • Other duties as may be assigned.
