We are actively seeking an Accounting Manager to join a growing heavy civil construction organization with a strong reputation for delivering complex infrastructure and site development projects. This is a highly visible leadership role for an accounting professional who enjoys being a strategic business partner while remaining hands-on with daily financial operations.

In this position, you will oversee core accounting functions, provide meaningful project financial insights, and help support the company's continued expansion through accurate reporting, strong cash flow management, and disciplined financial controls. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, technically strong in construction accounting, and comfortable collaborating with project teams, executives, outside advisors, and financial institutions.

Reasons to Join This Team:
  • Play a key role in the financial success of a growing construction company with a strong project backlog and long-term growth plans.
  • Enjoy direct collaboration with company leadership and the opportunity to influence business decisions through financial insight.
  • Work in an environment where your expertise in job costing, forecasting, and construction accounting is highly valued.
  • Receive a competitive compensation package that includes health benefits, retirement savings opportunities, vehicle-related perks, and communication allowances.
  • Help strengthen the financial foundation that supports future expansion, bonding capacity, and operational excellence.
What You'll Do
  • Lead day-to-day accounting activities, ensuring accuracy across general ledger, payables, receivables, payroll-related transactions, and job costing functions.
  • Direct the vendor payment process, including invoice review, coding accuracy, approval workflows, and payment administration.
  • Manage billed and unbilled revenue activities for construction projects, including progress billings, retention tracking, collections follow-up, and customer account maintenance.
  • Prepare certified payroll documentation and support compliance requirements for public works and prevailing wage projects, including Mavis-Bacon and state requirements.
  • Maintain fringe benefit calculations, apprenticeship reporting, and DIR / DAS 140 and 142 submissions as applicable.
  • Serve as the primary administrator for QuickBooks and Knowify, maintaining system integrity, project structures, permissions, and reporting consistency.
  • Generate monthly and quarterly financial reporting packages, including financial statements and supporting schedules for leadership and outside stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain rolling cash flow projections to improve visibility into operating needs and future financial commitments.
  • Produce and analyze work-in-progress reporting, project profitability data, revenue recognition schedules, and cost-to-complete forecasts.
  • Establish accounting procedures, strengthen internal controls, and maintain organized month-end and year-end closing processes.
  • Coordinate with bankers, surety partners, insurance providers, and external accounting professionals regarding reporting, renewals, audits, and financial submissions.
To Be Successful in This Role, You'll Bring:
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 3+ years within construction, heavy civil, specialty contracting, or a related project-based environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, or a strong track record of equivalent, relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Demonstrated success managing construction accounting processes, including job costing, project billing, and financial reporting.
  • Hands-on experience with QuickBooks and Knowify, including project-based accounting workflows and reporting.
  • Working knowledge of certified payroll requirements, prevailing wage regulations, and public works compliance reporting.
  • Proven ability to prepare WIP schedules, cost-to-complete analyses, cash flow forecasts, and financial reporting packages for lenders and surety providers.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, reporting functions, and financial analysis tools.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to translate financial information into actionable business insights for operational leaders.
  • Experience supporting software implementations, ERP transitions, or accounting system upgrades is highly valued.
  • A collaborative, organized, and accountable work style with the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining exceptional accuracy.
