Job description

Purpose:
The Protective Intelligence Analyst supports UPMC's Threat Management & Protective Intelligence function by identifying, analyzing, and monitoring threats that may impact workforce members, leadership, facilities, and operations. This role produces timely, actionable intelligence to inform enterprise risk decisions across workplace violence prevention, threat assessment, travel security, and broader security operations. The analyst integrates open-source intelligence, behavioral indicators, and real-time monitoring to support proactive mitigation and response.
Responsibilities:

  • Conduct intelligence research and analysis to identify potential threats, risks, and concerning behaviors impacting UPMC personnel, facilities, and operations.
  • Monitor open-source, social media, and other data sources to identify emerging threats, trends, and persons of interest.
  • Produce clear, concise intelligence products, including threat assessments, situational reports, alerts, and briefings.
  • Support enterprise threat management processes by developing background research and contributing to case assessments.
  • Provide intelligence support for workforce safety, travel, events, and other operational activities as needed.
  • Assess information for credibility, relevance, and risk, and escalate concerns based on established protocols.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, case notes, and intelligence records consistent with enterprise standards.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners, including Security Operations, Human Resources, Legal, and Cybersecurity, on threat and risk matters.
  • Utilize intelligence and case management platforms (e.g., Ontic, Everbridge, and similar tools) to support monitoring, analysis, and reporting.
  • Provide timely verbal and written briefings to security leadership and operational partners.
  • Support continuous improvement of intelligence workflows, reporting standards, and escalation criteria.
  • Assist with time-sensitive or after-hours response to emerging threats, as needed.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in intelligence analysis, criminal justice, public safety, or related field.
  • Two years of experience in protective intelligence, threat analysis, law enforcement, military intelligence, or corporate security.
  • Experience supporting threat management or workplace violence prevention programs preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to evaluate complex information and produce actionable assessments. Experience with open-source research and information synthesis. Experience with OSINT and intelligence platforms preferred.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, including concise reporting under time-sensitive conditions. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. High level of discretion, integrity, and professionalism. Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools.
  • Experience supporting threat management or workplace violence prevention programs preferred.
