Open Circle information

What is an Open Circle facilitator?

An Open Circle facilitator is a trained educator who leads social-emotional learning (SEL) sessions for elementary school students. They guide structured discussions and activities that help children develop skills such as self-awareness, problem-solving, and empathy. Facilitators create a safe and supportive environment where students can share thoughts, learn conflict resolution, and build positive relationships. Open Circle is a research-based program used in schools to promote social and emotional well-being.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Open Circle facilitator, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Open Circle facilitator, you need a background in education or counseling, knowledge of social-emotional learning (SEL), and experience working with children, often supported by relevant degrees or certifications. Familiarity with Open Circle curriculum materials, classroom management tools, and SEL assessment systems is typically required. Outstanding communication, empathy, and group facilitation skills help create a safe and engaging environment for students. These skills and qualities are essential for effectively fostering students' social and emotional growth and building a positive classroom community.

How does working in the Open Circle team typically involve collaboration with other departments or professionals?

In an Open Circle role, collaboration is a core component of daily work. Team members frequently coordinate with professionals from areas such as case management, mental health services, and community outreach to provide holistic support to clients. Regular interdisciplinary meetings and shared planning sessions help ensure that each individual's needs are met, and open communication is encouraged to foster a supportive environment. This collaborative approach allows staff to leverage diverse expertise and resources, making it both rewarding and essential for effective service delivery.

Job description

About Atkinson Construction

Atkinson Construction is a growing, employee-owned general contracting firm delivering high-quality commercial construction to communities across Western Canada. From multi-family residential and recreational centres to civic infrastructure and supportive housing, we're the kind of company where skilled tradespeople get to build things that matter. We're growing fast, and we're looking for the right people to grow with us. Learn more at www.buildwithacl.com.

About the Role

We have an immediate opening for a full-time Journeyman Carpenter on our Grande Prairie team. If you're a skilled carpenter who takes pride in quality work, thrives on variety, and wants to be part of a team that genuinely invests in its people — this is the role for you.

What We Offer

  • Competitive compensation — we pay well for the right people
  • Comprehensive benefits through Open Circle
  • Bonus pay opportunities
  • Employee-owned company — you share in the success
  • Career development and a clear path toward Foreman and Site Superintendent roles
  • Steady, full-time work on exciting commercial projects across Western Canada
  • A crew that takes safety seriously and looks out for each other

The Projects You'll Be Working On

In Grande Prairie, our current and upcoming work is focused on multi-family residential developments and large-scale recreational facilities — projects that are visible, impactful, and technically interesting. You'll be part of a skilled crew delivering work that the community will use for decades.

Your Responsibilities

As a Journeyman Carpenter at ACL, you'll be a key contributor on site — executing quality work, supporting the crew, and helping drive projects forward. Key responsibilities include:

  • Execute carpentry tasks to a high standard across a range of scopes: wood framing, interior and exterior finishing, concrete formwork, rebar layout and tying, and related work
  • Read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings; request clarification when needed
  • Support site progress, quality control, and deadline adherence
  • Mentor and support apprentices and less experienced crew members on site
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in accordance with ACL and OHS standards
  • Participate in toolbox talks, safety meetings, and site orientations as required
  • Communicate material needs and site concerns to your Foreman or Superintendent promptly
  • Operate tools and equipment safely; conduct daily checks on assigned equipment
  • Take ownership of your work and contribute to a team culture of quality and professionalism

Skills & Qualifications

  • Journeyman Carpenter Certificate (Interprovincial or Alberta) required
  • Experience with wood framing, concrete formwork, interior/exterior finishing, thermal and moisture systems, and related commercial carpentry scopes
  • Ability to read blueprints and follow technical instructions
  • Strong work ethic and a team-first attitude
  • Valid driver's license (driver's abstract required if operating ACL vehicles)
  • Commitment to safety — non-negotiable

This Is the Role. Let's Talk.

We're actively hiring and reviewing applications now. If you're a ticketed carpenter looking for steady work, strong pay, and a team worth joining — apply today.
